I have posted a couple times about noises I am hearing in my front end. I went out and looked underneath and saw that the disc brake guard underneath the rotor on the driver front wheel was slightly rubbing on the disc. I figured, ah ha, found the culprit. I get a screwdriver and start to pry the gaurd out a little and the entire wheel, hub and rotor moves! I went to rock the wheel and I can move the entire thing. I jack up the car and I can wobble the entire wheel/rotor/hub with no problem. I tried the same thing on the other side and it is tight as a drum. What is going on? Please help

 

are the lugnuts tight?

 

I'm no mechanic, but maybe a wheel bearing?

bearing, and possibly some other stuff shot apparently. Getting fixed today. What's scary is I am not asure how long it has been like this and I have been back and forth from LA to AZ a couple times in just the last week and a half.

Can you just replace just the bearings or do you need to replace the entire hub unit? I see parts for bearings and for the hub itself on gmdirect but not sure what I need. I ahev someon I trust that is going to look at it today and fix it, but would like to have an idea going in.
