i bought a 2001 h1 the front brake pads are fine but rattle in the caliper. im guessing whoever changed them didnt re install the retainer clips. does anyone have a diagram of how to install the clips.

 

I do but they are in my manuals at home. It will be tomorrow before I can post them up. Might PM Hummech and see if he can get them to you sooner.

I changed my 2001 brake pads front and back and there were no clips in. You do have to chamfer the pads, there is some great info on flashoffroad for this.

 

Hummer H1 do not have any brake anti rattle clips. DO NOT have them.
The biggest problem with a rattle is the caliper brackets are worn from the brake pads over the years. Also you might have Diff bearings that are loose. If you can check take the rotor and move it side to sid then you need bearings and i recommend stub shafts.
Top check the caliper brackets you can remove brake pads and check for low spot where the pads rub.
