I guess i will answer my own question here...If one of the small plastic tabs on the hinge side is broken off, does the handle still work properly??

The answer appears to be YES. I replaced the rear handle yesterday then conducted a series of door slams and dozens of openings and the door handle worked fine and did not rattle or anything. So...I wnt and changed the other 3, so now the ugly chrome overlay handles are in a bow and the used chrome ones I bought are on the H3. I am saving the old ones however, just in case.

Hope that helps someone else out..and I'll add I actually enjoyed this repair/upgrade and I usually don't like this stuff much...
