Default my first hummer (soon)

I have always loved diesels, and most of all the great Hummer. I never figured that an H1 would ever be in my price range (less than 30,000). I checked autotrader.com and found a few, so hopefully I will own one soon. I'd like to hear from you longer term Hummer owners. What should I look for? What has a tendency to go bad? What should I know about them?

...Also this isisexactly what I am looking for, so let me know what you think

Make sure to check the service records. If the truck has been consistently maintained it probably doesn't need much. A/C, CTIS system and engine issues are the most exoensive and prevalent. the older H1s had some cylinder issues in some cases. I have a 97 wagon with the original motor and never had an issue. The older A/c system don't work that well and upgrading to the later system is expensive.I live in Socal and the old A/C system works fine in the moderate temps we have here. If you aren't mechanically inclined let a Hummer mechanic do an inspection for you. It will be worth the money.

Please. 16 hits, and one reply. I could use a lot more input before I buy. Is the mileage fairly comparable to other diesel trucks? Is interstate driving reasonable? I don't need a drag beast, but I want a fair amount of acceleration for sudden changes in direction or lanes in heavy traffic, so how is it? What kind of engine/ transmission life canIexpect?

If your looking for that kind of daily driver don't get the H1. If you have to ask you can't afford it, H1s were built for offroad. If it is exactly what your looking for than you don't need us to tell you what to do. Check service records your always going to have repairs on any older vehicle.

How about this: you don'tknow what kind of "daily driver" I am looking for. So answer my questions, and I will make that decision. I don't need somebody that doesn't know anything about me making my mind up for me.

An opinion with a supporting fact would help more than just "it's not for you". Try something like "a hummer is probably not for you because it gets 4 gallons per mile and costs roughly 50,000 dollars a year to maintain." Something like that would be a lot more convincing than "you shouldn't get a hummer if you want that kind of daily driver." I currently drive a modded 1997 12v Cummins, and I drive it for fun, because I like it. I don't really tow or haul anything. I didn't mean to offend anyone, it just kind of rubbed me the wrong way when people decided that they knew what was and wasn't for me without any facts.

I'd offer an opinion but I don't know if I could answer within the requested guidelines.[&:]

Okay, I'll offer one thought. I don't know H1s but I do know there's a lot of skepticism on any H1 with such a low pricetag. Doesn't mean it might not be a good deal but be careful.

Dude, you don't need us to tell you what to buy. If you do that's messed up, what's next do you need us to tell you what to wear or what you should eat for dinner.
AS FOR YOU DON'T NEED SOMEBODY THAT DOESN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT YOU TO MAKE UP YOUR MIND FOR YOU.....That's exactly what your asking us to do.

No, I am asking you to answer the questions I asked in my first two posts so that I can make up my own mind.
