More inj pump issues

I don't know if you remember helping me out with my 2000 H1 with a blown inj pump a few months ago.Your advice was priceless. I had a pump with fuel leaking out the rear solenoid. I replaced the pump and was running fine until this morning. I stalled the engine due to cold veggie fuel (remember that I have a svo system on board). When I restarted on diesel, I had no power and the fuel pressure guage was reading vacuum of about 10 psi. I shut down and re-started. This time there was more power but still showinig vac. I limped home (about a mile) and noticed that I went through about 6 gal of fuel. When I parked, there was fuel spilling onto the ground. When I looked at the inj pump, I noticed fuel being forced out of the pmd fsd wiring harness into the valley and then on to the ground. Heve you ever seen this? And if so, Does it sound like the inj pump is toast?

sounds like you blew a seal or something in the injection pump.The PMD of course doesn't have any liquid interface with the injection pump, but all of the lines are attached to the back of the pump.... always a good place to start is what you last touched....

one thing you might want to look at real quick is that the line from the filter to the IP is attached properly... if not, it can spew lots and lots of fuel, and your truck won't run good at all due to decreased flow....

I don't think it could be the fuel line to the inj pump due to the pressure that the fuel is coming out of the wiring harness with. I'm afraid of the pump body being cracked near the fsd (or a seal being blown. Te pump is a fresh rebuild with about 1500 miles on it. I don't think that the warantee will cover it as I used veggie oil. To add insult to injury, I Just had the police and fire departments at my door after they had to do a spill cleanup and folllowed the trail. Luckily I work for the fire dept, and it was my co-workers. We had a chuckle. I gues I made the road slippery.
I was able to get the truck started today and it moved in the driveway. But, it was leaking fuel a a steady rate. When I looked at the IP, it looked like fuel was coming out of the wiring harness from the PMD. After moving some wires and shrinkwrap, I could see that it was coming out of the fuel control solenoid at the rear of the pump. It's ironic that this is ecaxtly where my last pump failed. One of the two small but long torx head screws that hold the solenoid assembly together broke off inside the solenoid. I temporarily pluggeds the hole, and the truck started right up, and leaked very little.So I'm sure that the rest of the pump is OK. The last pump had the SVO lift pump supplying it at about 14 psi. This is what I believed to be the cause of the first failure. This time, I only pressurized the IP to 5psi. This one only has about 1500 miles on it. I was able to get it for nothing through a friend, so no warrantee. No it's not stolen. I spoke with Sam at Dieselcare. He told me that if I get the pump to him, he could fix just the broken part without a complete rebuild. He still has to reset the poppet valve. So, the cost should stay down to about $275.
My question to you more experienced people is, Do you think that running SVO could have caused this issue, and why? The only scenario I can come up with is undue stress to the pump if the oil is not viscous enough (too cool and thick).
Please let me know what you think.
I originally sold the idea of the H1 to my wife based on the fuel cost savings of SVO. So far, it has paid for itself (the conversion). But, with maintainence and downtime costs, it's getting closer to closing the gap.
BTW Sam at Dieselcare doesn't think that SVO would cause this problem.
Also, I need a turbo horn ( the plastic one). Mine was carcked when I got the truck, and it's getting worse. So if anyone has a source, please chime in.

6007701 is the PN of the air-horn... through the dealer its on the order of $300.... might wanna try Kascar, Blue Hummer or Paul at myhumvee

Personally I don't like the idea of running SVO, I would much rather convert it into bio andhave the system behave relatively the sameas the petrol diesel that the truck was solely designed for.... I wouldn't think though that this failure was due to the SVO.... it perhaps was due to improper rebuild, or maybe just due to a component overlooked.... if it was a new IP perhaps just a poor quality component....

I think is has something to do with fuel viscosity or pressure. My first lift pump didn't last long, and the replacement put out a higher pressure. After the first IP went, I replaced it with a rebuilt one. I put a pressure regulator inline that I could adjust down to 5 lbs. That pump lasted for about 1500 miles, and same problem. I sent it out and had the fuel solenoid repaired. Then it happened again after 1 day. Right now, I'm trying to locate stronger screws to replace the stock ones with. No luck so far. I might even go the other way and go with a "weaker" grade 5 screw with hope that it will stretch and not break. I'm getting to be an expert at removing the IP and re-installing it though.

Perhaps a good place to start to probe for questions is calling a place like Diesel Injection Services out of Texas, or Superior Diesel out of the Detroit area. Another place might be to visit www.thedieselplace.com as there seems to be many folks on that forum whom have done a lot of work with the injection pumps from the 6.5L TDs. The only person that I know has spent a lot of time with SVO on a 6.5 Hummer TD, would be Skiman on humvee.net. Recently his engine cracked due to a, likely, unrelated no 8 failure....
I would venture to guess, if you are removing the injection pump to replace the screws that are backing out, and they continue to do that; That your root of the problem is internal, and that needs to be solved PRIOR to reassembly. I too would like to believe this is an internal pressure issue, prehaps commanded or whatever. A good diesel shop, like those mentioned above, could assist with a rebuild if that is an avenue of repair....
