So, I periodically have the nuetral light lite on my 4wd selector. I've cycled thru the buttons numerous times and that seems to work for awhile. Well, yesterday my service 4WD light came on and I couldn't select any 4WD selection. Took it to my buddies shop and he read a miscommunication code. He cleared the code and told me to monitor it. This morning, it briefly went to neutral again, but I was able to cycle thru the selections.

Now, I've had my license plate relocated for about a month and the license plate bulb connected to the white plug under the chassis. I found this thru a search on this site. Now the bulb is not lighting? It's not blown and I checked fuses that had TRL next to it. Any suggestions on these issues?

Think I'm going to replace the transfer case actuator for the first issue.

 

Does it actually go into Neutral or is it just the light on the switch lighting up?

I had a simalar issue, I had the service 4 wheel drive come on and the switch when depressed didnt do anything. (lockers engaged and disengaged but the lights never lit up on the switch) it ended up being the switch on the dash. knock on wood hadn't had any issues since then.

May or may not be your problem, but if I recall the switch wasn't expensive and it was easy to replace. Might be a good place to start.

 

All the times except yesterday, I was able to switch the gears. Yesterday, the lights went out after the nuetral light showed and I couldn't select anything.

 

I think the general fix is replacing the button pack. Mine does screwy things also but I know the 4wd is engaged however it will show no lights with a service 4x4 message.

I need to hook up my reader next time it does that and see if anything comes up.

 

Is there an official name or part number so I can google it and order one?
