Default rust on brand new 2008's ?

I bought my H2 early this year and I've always been bugged about how many parts weren't painted or were heavy-rusted underneath when I got it. I haven't seen a new vehicle like that since the 70's.

All the bolt threads, drive shaft, mounting pads, axles, etc had heavy rust on them. Lots of places had the under coating rubbed off (looks like during manufacture).

Is that common on h2's??

I suppose it is common. My 2005 is the same way. From day one undercarriage components had rust on them. I also have a 1998 Range Rover and I feel the undercarriage on it has half the corrosion that the H2 has. Pretty dissappointing.

I feel your frustration.

those parts that rust are let unpainted from the factory for a reason, they leave them raw metal because the vehicle manufactures want raw metal left under the vehicle so that it can surface rust and keep rust from forming on the body. i know that this sounds like BS but i was involved in a california lemon law case about this same issue and a general motors engineer explained it works like the zink plate that are put on boats to keep the electralist from eating up the metal parts on the boat. these raw metal pieces on the hummer will only surface rust and won't turn into penitrating rust which causes major damage.

Pardon me, as I am new here. However, rust is caused due to un-protected metal exposure to moisture, specifically the amout of iron in the metal. I think that is a bunch of BS about leaving the bottom un-protected to protect the top..... Surely the folks that own HUMMERS are smarter than to believe BS likethat. Proof is in the puddin ..... I own a 03 Lux, just got it back from McGinnis HUMMER in Houston. It was there for 2 months getting rust repaired on the drivers side rear, and on the bottom of both rear doors and rear hatch. They stated that they had NEVER seen a HUMMER rust there, as they are "body dipped" before mounting to the rolling chassis. Anyhow, that is just my $0.02 worth.......

Oh, by the way ...... Hey Y'ALL, Poke In Da Eye here from the GREAT State of Texas.....
