The amount of SPAM let through lately is insane.
Handbags, makeup, clothes. It's a hugh PITA to have to wade thru 10 posts in every forum to get to the real stuff.

Anyone looking into this ?

 

Yes. We need a couple of more mods on the forum.

 

I'm not as active on here as some, but I have vbulletin experience and don't mind lending a hand. Let me know if I can help.

 

it's ridiculous. The mods can't do too much. Either a admin or supermod (with correct permissions) can correct this. Upgrade the vbulletin and add a couple hacks!!!

 

We need an active admin and a couple of mods to keep up with the forum. i am the only one that spends much time on here trying to keep the site clean. I have brought this up to Patrick and he will work something out.

 

I own a PA hunting message board and we had a very similar spam problems so we had to move to a system of approving all new registrations which helped ALOT. But it makes for a bit more work on the front end.

We have a very large Mod staff, all volunteers, and they do a great job of sniffing out these folks that get thru the registration screen and banning them. I don;t know when the last time was we had spam on the board for more than 1 minute on the public board....maybe last 5 minutes in the wee hours of the night. But you gotta have the help.

I am the only ADMIN, so I approve registrations and once you start doing that alot you see trends in the screen names and can pick the weeds pretty quick right there...the site I own is pretty popular and I need to approve about 20+ regs a day, but it only takes a couple minutes. Most good members make a screen ID that matches the forum like for us "PAarcher" or "buckhunter" or something, spammers IDs often look like....DJEeb4 or just a series of letters that make no sense...cause they are using them on all type boards not just a hunting one, or a Hummer one, or fantasy football one.....+ watch the e-mail they register with. Don;t worry about kicking out real folks, they will come back if they want in.

ANother thing, if you have a free links option( which I don't think you do)...KILL IT! They sniff those out and feed there, we killed ours.

Our site went from a spam filled bash board to (in all modesty) one of the best sites on the net...very family friendly and focused ,but it takes lots of volunteers who want to have that community to call home daily, ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP they are the best police force but they need to have someone here to act on it.

I love this board, here to help if needed, but my access is limited during the day.
