Stupidest question of the year . . . how do you know if you have a rear locking differential? (Sorry I bought mine used.)
Not stupid......you do (they all do)

Just curious to know myself why would you want to lock your diff above 20 MPH, I have an ARB on myH3 and I can lock it any time I want, just don't see the need to when I'm not rock crawling or stuff like that.Actually one day I turned on the compressor to show my buddy how it worked forgot to turn it off, couple of hours later hopped in and took off, turn the first street corner, started freaking out!!! what just broke then realized the locker was still engaged, locker on dry pavement and turning fast= scary!!! LOL

if your talking about an h3 then they do not all have lockers....only the adventure package does.

blackbear...I and others just explained why you want a locker at higher speed....can't say much more. in mud the speedo will say more than 20 mph...when your really just crawling...having a locker would be nice in those situations.

Unless you're sitting in a muscle car getting ready to drag race down the street fine, with the H3 in 4HI with it's traction control and good tires I don't see the need for thelocker in sand or snow, we get allot of snow here and it handles it without a problem, with out the locker on , just my opinion.

Geeze....
Sometimes I just don't understand. Traction Control only goes so far and does so much. There's nothing like a Detroit Locker or some other mechanical locker for the diff. If traction control were so great then HUMMER wouldn't make a rear locker an option. Being a 50/50 Jeep/HUMMER guy I can honestly say that there's not a single traction controlled vehicle that I know of that will hold a candle to a fully locked drive line.

I would like my 4 HI to be locked and I would like to have a mechanical locker in the front but I'll have to wait for now. For all of you westerners who don't understand why you would want a locked 4 HI then come south and get in some nasty gumbo mud, you'll understand. Traction Control is sometimes 4x4, a locker is always 4x4.

Wow I was way in the dark about all of this. Went searching for more info and came across this, which is probably re-hash for most here, but just in case . . .
