Default Interior delimma need some input

Ok, now that I have the seat issue resolved, I have something that I need some input on.

I have painted several peices of my interior (door handle caps, chrome center console peice, and the top part of the tranny tunnel.) I painted them gloss white to match the exterior and they look good. I've painted plastic interior peices on many a car in the past and pretty much have it down pat these days.

While the painting looks great in my 350z I don't know that I necessarily like it in the hummer. It scratches up easily and, in general, the plastic peices closest to the floor and sides in my h3 get beat up pretty bad. So I guess my question is this...

Would it be totally ghetto to line-x most of the "in the way" trim on the interior? I know people have a tendency to go a little overboard with the stuff recently, and I'm not talking about blanket spraying the whole damn thing. It would basically be the following:

the tranny tunnel (keeping the padded armrest of course)
bottom of the doors
kickplates and most floor mounted black plastics
most of the black plastic trim in the back as that takes the most abuse.

I've also thought about pulling up the carpet and spraying the floor and putting the mud mats back in. But that's a lot of work.

I'm just looking for ideas to make the interior a little more utilitarian friendly and durable without going overboard.

Ideas anyone? Hit me with em.

is line-x'ing the interior ghetto? HELL no dude. Thats awesome.

...is painting the interior ghetto? Yes...

As far as spraying the floor and ripping up the rug, get yourself some weathertech floor mats. Autoanything.com has them. They literally go as far up the throttle-pedal tunnel as your feet will touch, and go all the way under the seat, and the entire mat is cupped so it will hold any spills/mud etc. They are cleated on the bottom so they dont move, and are actually custom-molded to the HUMMER's floors. They are AWESOME. And all you have to do to clean them is take them out, powerspray them, put them back in. They have some waxy coating on them so they look brand new with a good powerspraying.r

Wrap the interior pieces in vinyl. If it's white it wont chip or scratch as easily as paint.

Thanks for the input guys.

I don't consider spending a week + painting plastics ghetto. Spraying them with a rattle can yes, but doing a proper 3 part automotive paint job and shining them up until you can see yourself in them looks great. But like I said, it's delicate and looks good on sports cars, not so good in my work vehicle since they are getting beat up.

I really like the idea of wrapping them in vinyl.....maybe I'll go with that if I can find a place that sells the rolls. Though since comment #1 I am really considering just spraying them, seems easier and cheaper....I'll post some current pics soon.

Ahhh I thought you meant you **** canned them. That is ghetto. But this is a HUMMER, not a sports car like you said. Painting the interior is still pretty ghetto. Line-X'ing the interior would be pretty nasty though, and I'd def. give you an A+ on that one.

Done deal then. Sounds like a project for this weekend. I will keep the radio surround painted white, and maybe the door pull caps. But definatley going to spray all the in the way plastics. Will post pics soon.

Good! Now after you spray it, take some pics and post that bad boy up here. I'm pretty excited to see how it looks :tu:
