Hey there again fellow forum members! I want to achieve a louder and more aggressive sound fron my 2008 Humner H2. I am on a budget of about $300. Basically I can't afford much more than a muffler upgrade. Could anyone please give me some insight as to the best way to achieve my goal. Thanks ya'll!!!

 

With your budget its simply going to be as you said, a muffler replacement. With the massive size of the stock muffler there are not really much of any options that are an exact fit. The key will be to look and note the hole configuration and pipe size. Any local muffler shop should be able to take care of you pretty easily with just a little extra pipe to the fit the replacement you go with. The key will be finding the right sound that you like. I'd listen to a lot of sound clips on youtube of GM trucks and SUV's to get some ideas of how some particular one might sound.

On the configuration - muffles comes in different styles like 2 in 2 out, 2 in 1 out, 1 in 2 out. Position will be where there is only 1 pipe on one end, then it will be center, left, or right. Final is the pipe size.

One thing you might run into that you might not like much will be drone at certain engine speeds.

Before I did my full exhaust replacement on mine - I had a local shop put on a Flowmaster Big Block 50 series (Flowmaster part #527504) which did sound sweet but there was some minor droning at around 60mph on the interstate but it did not really bother me. Definitely a good bit louder and more aggressive than the stock muffler. In fact I'd say that I wish what I have now was a little louder more like when I had the Flowmaster on it with the stock exhaust (now I have full long tube headers and full Borla stainless with a "touring" muffler).

That Flowmaster part # might now work on yours though. I forget which year but Hummer changed the exhaust up after the first year or two. Mine is a 2003 and that Flowmaster part number fit pretty good with just a few extra inches of piping. I actually still have it and it was only about $140 and a local muffler shop charged me $50 to put in on.

 

Head down to your local muffler shop and ask them to weld on a copy of a Flowmaster muffler. That should achieve your goal and stay within your budget. Keep the old muffler in case you sell the H2. Most buyers will appreciate it.

 

I did it. Got me a flowmaster super 40 installed and she sounds wicked. I'm not sure how the sound quality compares to reality but here is a before and after clip...
