Default Hummie had a bad (probably expensive) day

Decided today to go out to my local range and do a little shooting this morning, range had some deep crusty snow about 1.5' deep. Well anyway I got stuck since the factory BFG's suk! Trying to pound my way out back onto the main road the Deuce let me sit an needed a tow. While shifting back-n-forth between forward & reverse something weird happened, first I got the TC light and ABS lights then it locked up in park and wouldn't re-start!!!! Now I admit once or twice I hit the rev limiter then the brake pedal felt weird, upon inspection I noticed one of the metal brake lines in the rear broke/blew also. WTF?

This all seems so f--ked up, I have had a dozens of 4x4's sort of stuck over the years and put my foot in it and powered out of it.

In order to drag it from the "stuck" in the snow dilemma I had to remove my shifter & console top to depress the solenoid to move the shifter from park to neutral. ( had this apart before for the broken wire)

To recap:
-broken/blown rear metal brake line (above rear) couldn't help to notice back in the summer they were pretty rusty.
-shifter will not move out of park position, also don't feel the brake interlock switch clicking like normal on shifter. Not allowing it to start, even when I depress the solenoid on the side of the shifter and move it into in any gear foot on brake -no start.
-TC (traction control) & ABS lights on, sure it's related to the broken steel line.
- also excessive clicking sound coming from front diff/ axles while trying to back out. Yeah at 5-6k rpm

Being that it's like 20 degrees here in Pa had it towed to a garage, it's just too cold to futz with it like normal

To add insult to injury a bunch of jeep guys had to be there

Anybody else have similar experience with your deuce -really disappointed

So...you slam it back and forth from drive/reverse hitting the rev limiter, and the brake lines you noticed "pretty rusty" from way back in the summer blew out.. .
and you're really disappointed in the h2?

No transmission is built to take abuse like that. If you read any vehicle manual, it will state to wait to shift from reverse to drive & vice versa. Powering out of a hole vs shifting at rev limit (this is a huge no no, despite what vehicle you drive) is apples & oranges.

Also, there's such a thing as preventative maintenance. If you see something that needs to be fixed, fix it! Living up north with tons of salt does not mean that rust is a sign of an inferior product. It's simply oxidation due to electrolysis. That's why stainless steel lines are a good option.

As for the tire comment, I believe the end years of the TA KO (version one) had a drop in quality. That's at least what I've read. Most negative comments stem from towing set ups, mind you. Take into consideration that they are not a winter tire & do not have the mountain/snowflake symbol. You should consider getting duratracs. H2Miami did a review on them. Link Also consider the new BFG TA KO2. They are do have the snowflake symbol. I have to ask, why not carry chains if you live in an area with that much snow? Might be a good time to buy a set. This wouldn't have happened with proper traction.

If you want to talk about problems, I had two Chrysler vehicles develop transmission issues at 17K ("heavy duty" truck) & 10K (Challenger). Don't sweat the Jeep guys. The transmissions in them are worthless, along with their warranties.

I've owned three hummers (two H2s & an H3) & the biggest problem I've had with a transmission issue is the H3 has the 1-2 shift issue. That's not even a hummer problem. It's a known issue for the 4L60E tranny, reguardless of which vehicle it's put in.

Been wheeling for 20+ years in Jeeps, Chevs & super duty's In fact this is my third Hummer since 2005 when I purchased my first brand new (probably one of the few in this place that have had the joy of having a H2 new off the lot ). I do know better and actually was stoping the drive train before switching forward and reverse! (Thats how the brake line blew) Also would have replaced the brake lines long ago if GM still offered them, and yes they are made of Craptastic material thats whey they deteriorate so rapidly.

Now I am not sure if its shift interlock switch or something in the blasted shifter again, neutral safety switch or ignition switch (again) The episode lasted under 2 minutes till it broke...

As much as I love these trucks and have defended them over the years I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SICK of bullsh-t like this, I can say with certainty that this little episode wouldn't have done crap to any of my previous 4X4's heck I have been stuck in my driveway worse then this.

You are correct, better tires would have prevent this. I am getting ready to install H1 wheels and tires. My hesitation was because my factory rims and BFG's are still pretty darn nice.
