crank engine and the fuel pressure stays around 59 to 60 psi then drops to 44 psi and holds there while driving.

The statement of 49 psi as tested by the auto shop was key in run position but engine off. Sounds as though my pump is not only weak but that the check valve is bad since the fuel lines need to be completely repressurized after 4-5 hours of down time.

Definitely ACdelco. So far the best price I can find shipped is $240.78 with fuel level sensor for the MU1656 from RockAuto.

My fuel pressure is 44 psi while driving and the truck runs fine, I'll look up the fuel pressure specs for the 08 6.2l engines.

If I remember correctly the 08 has a fuel pump control module which I think is a variable speed pump (PWM). I could be wrong, I'll look it up and see.

I'll run out and do a quick fuel pressure test,

Neal is spot on, the 08, and 09's have FPCM that are known to fail.

Do you have any CEL's, or an intermittent service 4wd system?

Nope. Just gas smell at start up, slightly rough idle, weak psi, fuel lines lose all pressurization after 4-5 hours, etc; etc...

May be an injector leaking down into the intake, this would explain the gas smell at startup and the loss of pressure.

If it was the pump you would not get the rich smell at startup as the gas would just de-pressure to the tank.

A leaking injector was my original thought which is why I brought my truck in for the leak down test. They wanted $$$$ to replace my injectors without knowing if that was my actual problem.

I don't have any CEL's or service alerts but I'm wondering if I should check with GM to see if there are any standing recalls on my truck. I found one for the FPCM that was released in January 2015.

If you can find someone with the correct scan tool they can perform an injector balance test. If there is a failing injector it may show up then.

You may even be able to let it sit for a few hours then pull the plugs and see if any are wet with fuel, its a long shot but if you have the tools to pull plugs you can do it yourself.

Injectors fail, get dirty, leak, etc....

If it cannot be found with the above tests then they may have to be pulled and checked or replaced.
