Insert the prying tool to a piece of cloth so you may not damage the edges and don't ever pull it out on it's side (tool) but rather push it straight UP!!!

Heard of a guy that instead of fishing line used kite string that came with a trick kite, a Revolution I think. Kevlar line not the normal white kite string.

If the mineral spirits didn't work, they probably didn't use double back tape. They probably used an epoxy. If that's the case, you're going have a REAL problem. I have an appointment today at the Hummer dealer for some warranty work. I'll see if I can find out exactly how they do it, and get back to you.

Just got back from the HUMMER dealership......bad news.....they prep the hood and underside of the grill for good adhesion. Then they goop on polyurethane adhesive (this is about the strongest stuff out there). The service manager told me this is permanent! He said, no way to remove without damaging grill and hood. I'm glad now I decided NOT to go for the recall fix! This is really going to hurt people wanting to re-paint the hood, 'cause now they have to mask the grill instead of removing, which makes for a crap paint job! Sorry

p.s. you might not be aware, but there was a recall on the H3's for the hood grill coming off at highway speeds. That's why the dealership is gluing these in place. The previous owner may or may not have gone in for this recall, but it kinda looks like he did.

Wow that blows. Now I have a damaged vent and a damaged hood and neither can get fixed. Thank you for finding out for me though.

The good news is that there's an air gap between much of the hood louver trim surface and the hood itself. That means that a router, roto-zip, or dremel type tool with a spiral cutting bit set to a depth equal to the thickness of the plastic trim could be used to remove the louver in pieces without touching the hood. After most of the louver is cut off, twist off the remaining small pieces stuck to the glue with pliers or vise-grips.

I was thinking......if you haven't damaged the hood louver too bad, and can live with it, you can still mount your handles by drilling through the louver and hood itself.......then bolt from the underside of the hood.

Here's how they glued it down and what was used. maybe you can find out what will dissolve the adhesive.
