Where did you put the ballast?

 

I´m thinking to change the xenon light of my H3 Alpha for the STARR HID Headlamp but it sais the lamp must be in a horizontal position or it will fail.
Any thoughts?

If I understand you, you currently have a HID "retro kit" and want to completely change over to A STARR HID system ??
The STARR HID product is a projection HID system and the bulb is in a horizontal configuration. All projection HIDs have the bulb in this position
There is no reason the bulb would fail. My bulbs (D1S) are four years old and not one problem
Some refractor style HID's from Toyota (07-09) used the HID bulbs in a vertical position, but that was only for low beam only. Toyota used halogen for the high beam (separate housing)
STARR is a bi-xenon HID and uses a metal shield to create both low and high beam.
BMW, VW, Mercedes, Porsche, etc all use the above system
They do not use a moving bulb style system, it has proven less reliable

I would love the STARR system but 999, it out of my price range right now.

 

You can get the STARR system for $899.00 from some other retailers, but you are correct
it is a pricey light system.
I am currently looking for a similar HID system for my 04 VW R-32 and it is about $2000.00
The STARR light kit does include both new headlight housings and of course, bulbs ballast and harness
At first I went the inexpensive "retro kit" way, but I got flashed by almost every car at night, because of excessive dazzle, even after aiming the lights down as much as I could
One of the cheaper bulbs of that kit failed after a short time
I had enough and pulled the trigger, bought the STARR and have never looked back

 

i just put a hid kit in mine 8000k bulb- with my stock lens and what not- adjusted the lights pattern to point down alot- all in out they look good and are deffinatly alot brighter then reg bulbs i paid $90 for my kit off someone local here took me total 30 mins to put mine in. a local shop here that installed my remote start/alarm quoted me at $200 for the hid lights and installs lol

 

I'm really considering getting the STARR, I drive a lot during the night and my eyes get tired really fast, I already started using glasses an I'm just 20!!!
I have 4 xenon lights and 2 fogs and after some time, my eyes get tired and I have to slow down a lot

 

if you do a little research online there are alternatives to the STARR - check out FX-R BIXENON PROJECTORS if your handy and good at this stuff you can deffinatly fit thoes im probley going to end up ordring some as i already have the hids in mine

That looks very impressive. I have seen where some companies now sell the stand alone projection HID housing, but I was always concerned about how to retro them to the stock halogen housings or did you get other housings ?
It would be nice to know where you got all your parts and total costs.
As you can tell by my posts I have the Starr system and your way was not available back in mid 2007.
