Finally got around to taking some photos of the headlight beam. The first one is lowbeam, second is highbeam. 8000k bi-xenon.

 

Looks GREAT!!! how difficult was the install? Any other parts required?

 

the install wasn't just too hard. the only thing that is time consuming is routing the wiring harness and finding a spot to mount the ballasts. i put mine inside the fenders. if you just remove the front grille by unscrewing the bolts(i think theres about 6 of them) then it makes things much easier and will save you time. the kit comes with everything you need. wiring harness with integrated relay, 2 ballasts, 2 bulbs. everything works like factory.

 

Very good.. You would have really loved a lower kelvin like say 4300K as that is as true a white light you can get. I have been running retro-solutions 4300k in my SuperDuty for well over a year and have yet to find a need to even engage the hi beams. 3000K is very amber and works great as a fog light. Glad you can enjoy your new lights.

 

The only reason they are 8000K is that PilotHID mistakenly sent me that instead of 6000K like I ordered....twice! So they finally sent me the correct 6000k bulbs which I now have and am happy with, very white light, no blue or yellow at all. They told me to just keep the other 2 sets of 8000k bulbs, all of this was no charge to me, which was great of them, so if anyone wants some 8000k bulbs.....

 

Is it a true high beam or is there a mechanical tilt to the low beam that trys to throw it out further to emulate a high beam?
the hi/lo kit I got from ddm tuning is a mechanical tilt and doesn't work well at all.

 

i believe this one is mechanical. it appears to magnetize the bulb and pull it back closer to the reflector which turns it into a highbeam. there is a noticeable clunk sound when the highbeams are switched on. seems to work effectively with this kit. both hi and low are HID.

 

i have a friend that had the same issue with his mustang, it turned out to be incorrect wiring.

 

Anyone with aftermarket HID kits have experience driving in snow and fog? Any dazzle problems?

The pricing on these kits is now making Silverstars seem obsolete from the value side of the equation too.

 

i put some silverstars in our h3 and couldn't tell any difference to speak of.i ordered a 55watt digital 6000k hid bi-xenon which is low and high beam and was blown away at the difference...email todd at retrosolutions.com and tell him ben sent you.he'll make up a kit with a resistor in it that meets the needs of our hummers.
