Help - Problem with 4WD not unlocking
one time driving locked won't damage anything...Mike, you don't need alot of room to disengage it out of 4 lock...just go in reverse about 10 feet or so while turning the wheels back and forth, that should do it....if not call for service cause your t-case actuator motor is shot. btw...The clicking you hear is the t-case actuator motor, not the t-case actually shifting.
Thanks Mike. I didn't know that. That makes sense. There's very limited space in the isle. I can drive slow and do it right, it feels like its not going to move. Its only going up to 20 degrees so if I let the car warm upi for abput ten min. Do you think it will warm up those partsa s well or does the temp have nothing to do with it disengaging?
I answered pre 6:00 AM this morning. I think the guys are right. You are still locked in 4 high. You don't have to turn circles. Just unlock the transfer case andback up straight for 15-20 feet and that should do it. This isn't really a design flaw Mike. I think I have had to do this with every 4 wheel drive vehicle I have ever had from time to time and that covers, Ford, Dodge, Jeep, Chevy and Hummer. I am somewhat embarassed to admit but I had a Ford Explorer at one time and it had the push button 4x4. I had to disengage and back up 20 feet everytime I used 4 wheel drive to get it to disengage. Let us know how it turns out.
Thanks for the help! I'll try it later and see what happens. I just get paranoid because of all of the past problems I have had with this vehicle. Every 2 months something goes wrong with it, and I don't even drive it hard. It's always something people aren't familiar with too. It seems like the manual transmission versions have alot of issues.
and 3hummers... there is no shame in owning an Exploder... I owned one... I never had one warranty repair in it's life. and it only had 2 recalls while I owned it... one for the ice shield on the TB and the Firestone tires...
