H3 Alpha transmission out

H3 Alpha transmission out
My transmission went out at 104k miles. 2 weeks ago, I noticed it slipping on the freeway when it was at 55mph and going uphill. Took it to the dealer who said there were no problems. One week later, it completely went out on the freeway. It would not shift out of first and if I pushed it to (so I could get out of traffic), the engine started getting hot. Is my hummer ever going to be the same? What transmission brands are good? Am I in a losing battle?

Ignore the idiot above!
My friend owned a JEEP SRT, off the dealer lot, it had transmission problems. Took it to the rep, he persuaded him it will go after the car breaks in.
long story short, 3 dealer visits to get the truck repaired, stayed 2 months with them, problem got solved when the dealer took back the car and re imbursed my friend.
Trans problems at 105K doesnt mean sell the truck.

Ignore the idiot above X2.
The best trans will be one rebuilt with all new parts by a certified tech. Shop around. If you have the $ check out shops that use the monster sun shell to replace the weak OEM one.
Good luck, let us know what you decide on.

Thank you for the valuable info. After a ton of investigation, I found a reputable transmission specialist. I asked him about the sun shell and he said he would re-quote the price with the upgrade for me. He said he usually uses sun shell on high performance vehicles but he has no problem using it on my H3. The original quote to rebuild my transmission is $1500 so I'll see what he charges using the sun shell. Anything else I should ask?

The price difference between a standard and a heavy duty rebuild is not that much. You should already have the 13 vane pump, a Corvette servo is under $50, read up on and decide if you prefer Borg Warner, Alto or Kolene friction disks and steels, an upgraded kevlar band is inexpensive and has pros and cons but it does have holding power and maybe look at a bearing and bushing upgrade kit if you have more left to spend. If running 35's or doing any towing, especially with high summer temperatures, I would recommend the HD built. Oh yeah, get a big 24k lb rating or bigger trans cooler with an in line bypass thermostat.
