​​​​just drove SIX hours round trip to see a shiny turd. Geeze . It was not as we had hoped... So back to square one. The bad thing is, Now , WE REALLY WANT A HUMMER . It had water under the carpet, shifter literally came off in my hand, rust everywhere underneath. Dry rotted tires. Uuuhhhhh burned again.

 

take your time there's should be plenty of H2s around , now the water under the carpet is something that happens to this trucks because at a certain point you will get water to run from the marker lights and maybe the base of the onstar antenna down to the side pilars and ends down under the carpet . When ever you pick your next truck to test drive if you look by the corners of the headliner on both driver an passenger side if you see what may look like stains its sign of water leaks . . the marker lights have a gasket that over time because of the heat start to rotten and thats when water makes its way in . silicone takes care of that problem , even if you find an H2 that has no water leaks yet eventually it will happen ..

 

Agreed. Its not a matter of if an H2 will leak and get water on floors, it is a matter of when. Generally its not terribly difficult to fix the leaks but they can sometimes be very persistent in tracking down. Just be patient and wait until you find the right one that has obviously been well taken care of and is rust free.

 

I purchased an '06 out of the midwest many years ago that had low miles but I was concerned about the amount of rust underneath the vehicle. My mechanic friend picked up the car, put it on a lift and spent considerable time removing the rust and then coating w/ some type of rust-proof material. We owned that car for 9 years and put 80k miles on it, and when I was cleaning it last year a large slab of rusted metal fell off and there was a very tiny rust spot coming thru the front door. I got very nervous and thought the rust cancer was eating the car from the inside and decided to sell it. I got a very fair price for it and sold it quickly.

I then turned my attention to the '08/09 models w/ the upgraded motor, transmission and interior/dash. I found an excellent example locally that was the personal vehicle of CO's largest Hummer dealer and there is absolutely no rust on it whatsoever, and it only cost $5k more than what I sold the rust bucket for.

If you're willing to drive 6 hours to see one, consider finding one in an area that doesn't see snow/ice/salted roads. Good luck w/ your search!
