Default Gas Mileage difference

i know people don't buy Hummer's for the gas mileage but I am doing some research. I have had 3 H3s with the 3.7 engine and am looking at trying out an Alpha. I drive 200 plus miles a week with my job. Is the mileage a whole lot worse with the V8? I don't mind a little but more cost each week but don't want to break the bank. Any input would be helpful.

I have owned a 3.7 and currently own two 5.3's and my experience has been that the difference in mileage is minimal. Of course, all vehicles are different and I'm pretty sure one of my rigs gets a tad better mileage than my 3.7 did. For sure, you will like the difference in performance!

Depends on if you can keep your foot off the skinny pedal or not. If mileage is that big of a concern for you there are plenty of cookie cutter vehicles out there that get much better mileage.

Nope not into cookie cutter vehicles. Hummer all the way. At least till you can't find them anymore. I do take it easy on the pedal. I'm in the market for a lower mileage truck that my current one and it's just that I have to drive for my job and am wondering if an Alpha is going to cost a whole lot more every week than my current 3.7 does. It's going to be one or the other. Just trying to make an informed decision.

I do mixed driving, both in town and commute (30 miles one way). Consistently get 15 mpg with my Alpha (used to get 15.5 mpg before my LED light bar install). Mechanically stock, 285 tires (off-road pkg).

The EPA ratings for the I5 and the V8 were only about 1 mpg different. The I5 is a bit small for the weight, so it works harder. The V8 on the other hand, doesn't have to work as hard.

I have had a 3.5, a 3.7 and now an Alpha. They all got about the same around town, the Alpha gets about 1mpg less on the road. As the previous poster stated, each vehicle is different so are drivers.
