Yeah, sadly I have done it too many times on other cars and it killed me every time I looked at them. I had this beat up chevy truck that I would do some extremely stupid stuff with. I never cared what happen to it but when someone tapped it at the mall, I wanted to slash their tires. Had to hold back, really don't need road rage.

 

As a final note here for posterity and future searchers... Finding a replacement tether for a new locking cap can be quite a challenge. Stops at various auto stores today yielded zero results as did many Google searches.

Here's a "universal fuel cap tether" I finally found made by Dorman Products. If you search ebay you will find it for sale under that name. Here's the manufacturers homepage http://www.dormanproducts.com/ You can find it by searching for "tether."
