The dealer wants to charge 2500 (for just the kit), to mount my spare tire from the cargo area to the back door (outside)...

no way you can buy a tire holder on ebay for like 400 bucks and mount it yourself

gotta go with Ramsay on this one, that's robbery. i may know someone with a tire carrier they'd be willing to sell, but not sure where you're located or if the shipping would make it worthwhile. i saw some on ebay as well, so you may get luckier there.

That seems crazy expensive. $2500 buys you a cell phone, and you can get the spare air dropped anywhere you need it! Hope shortbus can help locate one for you!

<cough cough> that's REALLY high...granted its kind of a pain, that price is almost double what a dealer should charge, and yea, if you're technically inclined, you can do it yourself and save some $$

WTF - I knew it... I am not mechanically inclined whatsoever... Even if I have my trusted mechanic do the work, how many hours do you think it will take for the install?

On my 03' I took the spare out and put it in the garage. I don't like the spare on the back of the truck, like my 07' and I figured there was no way my wife could change the tire and by the time AAA got there she would be late going where ever she was going. Knock on wood we never needed it but if we did, just have AAA bring a flat bed and tow it home.
