I used to own a 1999 H1 - I sold it when I got bored - Now I'm about to pull the trigger on an 06 Alpha, but the problem is that I can't find one local to look at and drive!

This means I'd have to buy/commit sight unseen. I don't have a problem with this, as I've done it in the past. But the issue with the Alpha is, if the interior noise is too loud, I'll probably end up not liking it.

I do own a duramax chev truck so I know what the duramax noise levels are...

Can anyone give me an idea how much quieter the Alpha is vs. my old 99?

The Alpha is quite a bit quieter and has a more refined interior than your 99... and significantly more power.
Other than price, the 99 has NOTHING on the Alpha, it is a superior machine all around.

 

funny thing my dad is also looking at an h1 ALPHA we had a loaner 06 that i drove yesterday and it seemed no louder than the diesel trucks today.

 

Thanks guys - I suspected that it would be nearly as quiet as my chevy duramax - I just wanted to be reasonably sure before I drove from WA to CA to look at a couple of Alphas.

My girlfriend falls asleep all the time in my Alpha on long rides. It is quite and a surprisingly smooth ride when you drop the tire pressure (26 for the rears 32 in the fronts).

 

my impression sisn't as favorable. i think modern diesel pickups are far better. some heavier industrial trucks are perhaps similar to the alpha.

but its cool as crap, so who cares about a little noise?
