Yeah but doesn't the OEM one which I have, require holes be drilled thru the fender? If so, then I can only replace it with the OEM one correct? I wish they made an OEM version with a lock.

Here is a link to oem locking fuel doors. You can put any aftermarket fuel door that says it is for an H3 for your year. On some of them, yes you may have to drill a couple holes. Well I ended up breaking the plastic cap that is supposed to retract with the spring after trying to loosen it with PB Blaster; but it worked out as the door stays shut now but the spring is not protected by the plastic cap, not sure how it will hold up against the weather. I'll probably lube it with a bunch of grease or something. Thanks for the help all....

Got similar fuel door issues only involving the plastic cap/plunger which fits inside the plastic sleeve. Inner spring is intact and works properly. The plunger is "binding" inside the larger diameter outer sleeve and stays fully seated to the rear when it should be springing forward. Tried several different plastic friendly lubes & graphite. Both components surfaces which contact each other appear to be have no defects, burrs, etc.

One thought is to attempt polishing or removing a minute amount of material of the interior of the sleeve? Keeping in mind it needs to remain smooth for the plastic to plastic contact and remain gliding fluently.

Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Remove the cap/plunger like I did if you're not too worried about the spring rusting...the spring on mine still looks fine thru rain and car washes...

Used a low abrasive Dremel wheel and removed a small amount of the sleeve's inner diameter, applied some lithium white grease to the plunger & reassembled. Works like factory.
