Default Check Engine Code P0171

I installed a new K&N Intake 2 days ago, and just today my check engine light came on. I went to see what the code was and it says P0171. Anybody have any experience with this code or what I should do about it? I don't really know what to do!

Thank you, that did help a lot. It's probably just dirty.

It is not your K&N filter itself causing the problem, we have over 180K miles on test trucks (I have 50K on just mine) running K&Ns w/ no issue. If you over oil after a cleaning it can dirty up the MAF. I have heard, but not yet seen, that on occasion a new K&N filter may have caused oil fowling to the MAF because it had too much oil when made. Might be an urban legend?

Can't say the same for the K&N warm air intake. The CEL can be cause by how it was installed (ie. like a leak where the MAF is re-installed) or any hairline crack in the plastic versions.

What should I do because I cleaned the MAF sensor and cleared the code but the code came back today.

don't clear the code when its MAF related. It should go by itself. In fact don't clear it unless its EVAP related (from what I know)

Check for a leak as I described here: https://www.hummerforums.com/forum/h...d-26144/page7/

-Or-
You can do what a lot of others have, take the K&N intake off, put the OEM back and see what happens. If the CEL stays off, you know what was throwing the CEL. Somebody around here did that, called K&N and they authorized a return of the intake? If they won't, Ebay it.

Honestly, there is nor reason for the K&N intake in and of itself to throw the code, it usually boils down to a minor installation error, but not always.

Then, get a different intake that doesn't cause that issue.
