I have a '06 H3, and today on my way home from work my brakes "quit" working...I was stopping at a traffic light and stopped then the brake pedal kept going towards the floor and I started rolling forward. The pedal went all the way to the floor and I was still barely able to stay stopped. If I pump the brakes they seem to catch quickly, but after coming to a complete stop the pedal drops. The brakes were fine when I went out at lunch time and it was just parked for about 4 hours before I drove it again and had the issue.

I checked my brake fluid and the level is just below the Max line. Any ideas as to what the issue could be? The brake light did not come on, nor did any other warning lights. Any help is appreciated!

 

When I changed my brakes a few weeks ago, I had the same problem because like and idiot I forgot to bleed the brake line. If you have air in the line the petal will go all the way to the floor, but if you pump it you can get a bit of stoppage back, but then once you stop and let off the brakes go back to non-existant basically. You may wanna check that, hope it helps.

 

sounds like master cylinder,,,but i know beans about abs!!

Thanks guys! Tom you are right, I was told my master cylinder failed. Call me crazy but one would think that one of the million warning lights/messages might have come on and signaled the brake failure!
