Brake Light Issue
Hi folks...first time poster as this is my GF's vehicle. Moved to a new state and was shocked when I took her H3 in for inspection yesterday. It's a 2006 with 40,000 miles on it. I thought everything went fine but they told me at the end that the brakelights weren't working...although the overhead third brakelight in the rear glass is working. So...I immediately replaced the bulbs and the fuse marked for "stop" in the owners manual. Niether of these quick & easy solutions fixed the problem. The backup, turnsignal, & running lights all work fine
I need to get this fixed real quick as I have to leave for a month and a half on Sat. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I also found she has a sunroof leak that has left the drivers side floor soaked.
I thought maybe it could be the switch activated by the brake pedal, but wouldn't that also cause the brakelight in the glass not to work??
Does anyone know which colored wire in the rear light assemblies is for the brake light...I think there's a couple blacks a blue and a green??
I was actually contemplating rigging something from third brakelight since it's working and tapping into the wiring harness feeding the rear lights.
Oh..and found that the sunroof must be leaking and I'm currently drying the drivers side floor which was sopping wet.
Thanks in advance for any help!!

Does it have a trailer hitch? If so, is it OEM or an aftermarket?
Open the back door, look for the wires that feed the license plate light where they go under the rear door chassis, you should be able to see them in between the truck and bumper. Make sure the wires are not rubbing on the chassis, this wears out the wire insulation and causes a short, or kills the battery if grounding out completely.
Good luck.

Thank You...I will check that out. I actually had done quite a bit of researching before I posted and I was hoping to find something as simple as a rubbed wear spot, but that didn't appear to be the case. As I mentioned , time was of the essence so here's what I did.
I peeld back the inside rear window cover and got my fingers on the wires that fed the third brakelight. After finding the colored one was a light blue I pulled grommet plug that feeds all wires to the doopanel and located this wire. I removed the 2 tailights and jumped the third brakelight over to the tailight brakelight wire (blue wire). Bingo...brakelights all around and off for a successful completion of her inspection so that she can get her vehicle titled and registered.
Unfortunately as I was coming home I used the turn signal and got the "too fast" blink and sound. ****!! No rear turn signals now on either side, but running light, bckup light and brakelights are fine. I would appreciat if anyone knows why this would happen. The third brakelight was fed by a light blue and a black wire. Do I need to tie the black wire from the third brakelight into the black wire on the taillights?? It seemed counter intuitive to me that what i did should have knocked out the turn signals when they were fine before and I thought I was only messing with the brakelight wire. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
