Default blowout and my spare is new

Hi, I have a question about using my spare. I have been forced not to rotate my spare due to GM's decision to delete sensor on the spare and now I have blown out one of my Bridgestone 285's with 25000 miles on it. Spare has 16mm of tread and all other tires are at 11mm. My Firestone dealer found a tire and would get me on the road for $200. I would mount the spare and new tire on the same axle and use the worn tire as my spare. The new tire is oem from back-stock since they are no longer manufactured. I wouldn't mind a set of new tires, but spending $200 and not +$1200 has to weighed in on the decision. With all that said, my main concern is my transfer case and I would like your opinions if this tread wear difference would be an issue. Also, if I was to go with the single Bridgestone, what axle would you put the fresh tires on?

Thank you,
Mike

Use it. T case won't know the difference, neither will your diffs.

What does no TPM sensor in the spare have to do with using it????? The TPMS is near frickin useless, do it old school, LOOK at your tires before you drive.

I must be a thrill seeker, I leave the house without my cell phone, drive 40 -50 year old cars and motorcycles, and do all my own maintenance and repairs on everything.

Thanks Doc, your opinion matters to me. Front or back axle with the fresh tires? Also, can I reset the system with the spare mounted (with sensor) and the wheel with no sensor in use? I don't want to be looking at svc sensor warning on my display. I had just got of the phone with the boys at Lynch and he gave me the same advice on the single tire purchase.

Thanks again for your reply(s).

If the BCM doesn't read a sensor it will flash the message. I agree with Doc.

My example is perfect to show how useful the tpms system is. You are driving down the hwy, you hear a pop, then sidewalls flapping on the pavement, pull over and change the flat, get back in the Hummer, start it up and then an alarm goes off, a message that you have low air in a tire continues to flash and flash forever. 5 days later I am still enjoying a stupid message about that tire. I would like to thank the government gods that gave us this useless device. Anyways, Firestone is going to swap my spare rim out with one that has a sensor at no charge to me. Rotate my wheels so that the new tires are on the front where I will leave them. No more Rotations for me and all for $200. By the way, I did call a dealership about getting an extra sensor and they want $80 for one, something to look forward to when the sensor batteries die. 80*4 plus install, awesome.

Default no rotation 4 me

I don't rotate, save the money. no im not doing 4 moves myself!
if they ever wear out ill gladly buy some different ones and maybe get a buck for a "new"old tire.
and no screwing with a missing sensor too.
traded an 07 at 67000 and tires looked all the same, handled like a dream.

and docs right,,,run it, don't matter.

and if we"re stuck with the system we ought to be able to kill it.
