I think i replaced rusty brake lines on every vehicle,GM,FORD,ET AL I ever owned.
I'm amazed that the lines,a major safety component, are not made rust free by the mfgr., OR, mandated by Big Bro,who seems to get into all aspects of auto design,teflon coated stainless or kriptonite or something else out of this world.
Seroiusly,they just should not rot away asa they routinely do.

 

The only rust issue I have had to date was the rear passenger door issue we all discussed on here a while back. The underside and frame are staying in decent shaoe where the paint is intact. Some nuts/bolts are starting to look like they are going to be miserable if they ever have to come off.

 

Our first '06 had a bit of rust beginning to show on the undercarriage, but all of the body panels and bumpers were rust free. Our second '06 was rust free everywhere, including the undercarriage, but it was destroyed in an accident.

Our '08 Alpha had a little rust on a few of the undercarriage parts and some bubbles beginning to occur on the inside bottom flange of each rear door. We had the entire undercarriage painted and clear coated (piece by piece) before we had the custom paint done, and the warranty covered repairs to the doors.

I noticed a small rust spot on the grey front impact cover of my 2008 H3 Alpha, any tips as to the easiest way to clean this up? Anyone else have this happen??

plus i'm wondering what caused this in the first place; the location of it is on the top of the cover, right where it meets the plastic bumper piece, its an odd little spot for a rust stain...does water drain right about that area?

 

Is it a rust stain or a spot of rust? If it's just a rust stain over the paint there are ways of removing it. There are all in one polishes that contain tiny abrasives that will safely remove the rust stain without damaging the paint. That's where I always start first. You can pick these polishes up at NAPA stores and probably advance Auto or any automotive or paint store.

If it is not just a stain and corroding the paint and metal you will need to completely get rid of the rust, usually by sanding, then priming then painting.
