It's interesting. When I first joined this forum after buying my H3, I was pleased to find that, unlike so many otherauto forums, most everyone here seemed so relaxed and friendly. Well, at least in the H3 section. j/k
Well, I guess i just hadn't spent enough time here. Some of the threads lately are starting to remind me of some of those other forums.
I have attempted to make a point to many of the people on the Vette forums- the point being, that by displayingcertain attitudes toward one another, we begin to sound alot like the type of people we are always attempting to convince people were not. For whatever reasons, people already have preconceived notions about those that drive certain vehicles. Mostly those notions stem from a combination of ignorance and jealosy, but it certainly doesn't help if the actions/attitudes displayed by the people driving those vehiclescontinues to feed the fire.
Many people have this belief that Vette drivers are pompous d*cks.(this mainly seems concentrated toward therecent gen owners- guys that own C5s or C6s) Well, let me tell you, spend a little time on one of the prominent vette forums, try a post or two (especially in off-topic sections- yikes!), and guess what? Many of them act like pompous d*cks! Yet, most vette owners (of all gen vettes, old and new) I've met are some of the most friendly, down to earth people I've met.
Think about it this way- a guy decides he likes a Hummer enough that he's going to buy one. He doesn't care that some people seem to have a general negative attitude toward them. He thinks "I'm a nice guy, and I bet most other Hummer drivers are nice people too." So he buys the Hummer and starts personalizing it with a few items. Then decides to join a forum and talk to other nice Hummer owners about their similar interest and together, maybe they'll begin toshatter this assumption that Hummer drivers are a**holes. Then maybe he posts some pics or mentions some mods he's considering. Next thing he knows, he's getting slammed by people on the forum and he realizes, "Wow, these people really are a**holes".
He gets rid of the Hummer and buys a G37 (you'll get the joke if you were in a certain-hopefully- now dead thread) and is another one of the many Hummer-owner haters.

I'm not a fan of "bling" myself. I hate the word itself and believe it's misused alot. Everyone's definition of what is bling and what is not will differ.
RealJeep, I get the impression that most of your posts are lighthearted jabs and teases, but it might get annoying to some after a while. You're not going to change people's ideas and opinions about how a vehicle should look or be used by constantly jabbing at them. I agree that some of the"blinged" vehicles you refer to look silly, but by telling that person that I think it's ridiculous, all I'm doing is upsetting that person and making myself look like a *****. What should I care if they like it? It's their vehicle.
That said, I think some of the reaction to RealJeeps commentswere a bit overboard, as it was obvious he was just teasing.

Chill fellas. Live and let live.

Well said greenshirt.

I'll throw in just one thing on the whole blingers/mudders thats hit me recently...not like we haven't gone over this a zillion times on theforum but you have to admit there is definately a unsettled line of tension between those withchrome and those with dirt.

TO ME (disclaimer), it seems like the people who like mud and dirt are more of a community. They add parts and accessories out of necessity to make a strong, reliable and dependable rig when in adverse locations. Very little is done simply justfor asthetic reasons (although some is). A balance of form and function if you will. But with those who build the rigs that are focused on things like max horsepower and big shiny rims and lots of chrome, when it comes down to it, it is less of a community and more of a every man for himself bout of one uppsmanship. I see the fun in that, competition is a great thing (especially when youre winning) but I'm sure when the day is done, they can all sit down and have a beer but it just seems like theres more competition, tension and a sense of pride in thier rig that can sometimes send them a bit overboard.

but in the big picture, just appreciate the fact that we live in a world where "getting a little worked up" means arguing over a shiny piece of metal or a black piece of metal. things could be a helluva lot worse.

cheers!

I agree with most of the stuff your saying, but it gets really annoying when a person is sating that you dont have a real hummer because its rolling on 28's and doesnt go offroading every weekend. Off-roading is cool but its not my thing and I think 37 inch tires, 20 inch rims. and a lift kitare cool, but I dont want to do it with mine. I ot really pissed at realjeep because he is constantly ridiculing "blinged out" or "chromed" hummers that dont constantly go offroading. BTW, I know I overreacted but I personally don't regret anything of wat I said. I dont wanna sound like a ***** and the last

Once again..... I have NEVER said you were not entitled to your own tastes and if you like to bling your HUMMER then that's fine, it's your ride. Once again...I have NEVER been mean or called anyone anything derrogatory. SureI poke fun, jab and roll with the punches. Therein lies the problem. Everyone has lost their ***** due to this PC crap and now everyone is offended at the slightest little thing. If you want, call me a dumb Redneck for getting mud all over my truck, I don't care as long as I know you're just poking fun at me and my rural southern roots. I have bigger fish to fry than to get offended by petty crap like that.
Yes, there is a big divide between those who think HUMMERs are for show and those who think HUMMERs are for go. Yes, I have chrome on mine andI actually wax and clean my truck. And yes, I don't care what you do with your truck as long as you don't tell me what I CAN do with mine. Do you want to poke fun at me? I don't care, just be a man about it and don't get pissed when I poke back. If you all want to get your panties all wadded up every time someone is not politically correct then take your pansy self back to your mommy's skirt and cry.
Have you noticed that HummBob has not said a thing about being picked on? That in itself speaks volumes about his character and even though I may not like his H2 I think he's one helluva guy! Now man up you'se guys and act like you have a pair.....That's all I have to say 'bout that.

I am being a man about it and I already explained that I overreacted and the only reason HummBob hasnt said anything is because he probably doesnt want to get into a dispute with you( or maybe he never read this thread). You offended me when you called my Hummer a "hooptie" and a "ghetto cruiser". Calling someone else's ride a hooptie isnt the best thing to do and itoffends most people that have nice rims and use their hummers as pavement pounders. A LOT OF MY FRIENDS OFF-ROAD AND WE LIVE IN NEW JERSEY andsince when was off-roading a redneck thing. BTW I never told you how to customize your hummer and you keep saying the same crap. You cant go around calling people's rides "hoopties" or "ghetto cruisers" and not expect to get bashed on.
