I would have never known because I only use the recirc pos in the summer when the ac is on. In the winter, if you have the recirc on, it just blows around the same nasty air, and you run the risk of catching colds easier. The same goes for your house. That's why people get sick more often in the winter.

Benz is now doing theirs like that too?..I guess times are changing..I had a '92 300E for 12 years...It didn't override the A/C with the recirculate feature...I guess back then Daimler-Benz realised people were still smart enough to know when to turn on the A/C when the windows needed de-fogging.
MB even takes it one step further and has a time-out function built in too. After 1/2 hour (I believe) the outside air flap starts to open again to blend in outside air to keep the driver alert by adding fresh air back into the cabin.

On my 03 Jag..the recirculate times out after 10 mins, then switches back to outside air...Unless you override the timer with a long push and hold on the switch for about 5 secs, then it stays in the recirc. mode indefinately...But you still have to manually select the A/C button if you want cooling too.
