i recently found out that the 05 h2 comes with 12.8 inch brakes up front and 13" ones in the back. i find this absolutely appalling. my mothers x5 comes standard with 16" and its alm0st 1500lbs lighter than the h2.

so, i have begun the search for aftermarket brake rotors and pads. i know that brembo makes a good system (but its 5k, way out of my range). so, when i take my truck in to have it straight piped (from the cat back of course) i am going to ask about brakes lol.

what are your guys's thoughts on the brakes?

 

my brakes have personally been fine. Never had a problem out of the two H2's I have.
If you want to get Brembo's then great! With my trucks, I do not need them. The brakes have been good enough for me but thats just me.
Maybe some other people will chime in that trailer heavy.
Theres one guy out there that has H2 Limos that may have to fight brake problems.

 

An X5 is a not an off-roader. You can get away with low profile tires and large rims that allow for larger brake discs on an X5. On an H2 you need a lot of rubber between a rock and a rim to keep from destroying it. They are two different kind of animals.

I don't have any issues with my brakes. They work pretty well.

 

I only want to add that the guys who have put large rims on their Hummer should seriously consider upgrading their brakes to larger diameter discs. I'm no expert, but those who know say you need additional braking power to control the kinetic energy inherent in large rotating rims due to all that metal being further from the center axis.

 

no, im staying with the stock 17's on mine, but i drive bmw's alot. so im used to stopping on a dime basically (my mothers x5 and 750li) and i just find i have to work to get my beast to stop. idk, im not saying they are bad, but lots of people on here talk about getting more power, but you gotta remember to upgrade you brakes too i guess, and if you have 17 rims on these trucks and the 315 wide tires or whatever, you can surely put some 14" brakes or something slightly bigger than the 12's in there

ive seen the brembo kits for 5k, so im pretty sure i can find something modest for about 2.
