30,000 mile service?
Hey everyone, so my H3 just rolled over 30,000 miles. I took it into the garage for an alignment and suspension issue and the guy told me that I was due for the 30,000 mile service. He said it was essential to keep the vehicle in top shape. He also said that it would be $1,330 plus tax.
Is this a pretty standard procedure and standard price? If you had it done, was it worth it?

yea thats total horse crap !! Follow your maintenance sched via the manual. The only thing not stated in the manual that I would recommend is to have your Differential fluid changed every 35k or 50k. Some might argue this but this fluid is not an everlasting fluid and as with heat it breaks down and collects metal shavings in the case's. Thats why they installed small magnets in the Diff cases to collect the particles. IMO doing this every 35k for the price of a synthetic engine oil change is priceless. Remember that fluid is not a super fluid !

It's a fairly typical rip-off these days, all the stealerships are doing it. Let me guess, at 30k they wanted to "flush" all the fluids, change the oil and give you some sort of expert inspection of all the systems on the vehicle.
Guess what, they don't change the filters when doing a transmission "flush", none of them do, and I am not just speaking of Hummer here. This has turned into big business for not only stealerships but also places such as Valvoline Instant Oil.
I specifically asked the Hummer dealer how these services were performed and the service "advisor" stumbled through his explanation when I asked why the covers are not dropped (differential) and the filter (ie transmission) is not changed. I got an answer something on the order of "there are magnets on the drain plugs to catch the particles".
If I don't do the service myself, I will go to an independent that knows how to pull pans, filters and differential covers to do a complete job.

I'm glad that I am not the only one who thought that was a rip. My initial reaction, I thought it was too expensive. And when I asked for more information on what they do to it, it wasn't all that much. Bayrat pretty much summed it up. They flush the fluids, they supposidly check/replace all the filters (he was adament that this was essential at 30K), rotate tires, alignment (which they did under warranty that day anyway), oil change, and "make sure everything is working and running at peak performance". The guy acted like EVERYONE gets this done and as if I had forgot to get it scheduled.
I am glad I didn't get sucked into that sale ploy. Thanks all for the info.
