i left on a trip with? enuf toget me 130 miles to a low price station in ohio,(132)
i reset to zero and hit the road,rt 20 eastbound.
low fuel came on at 93 so i had 39 to go,kinda scary! i heard we have 3 gal left at warning so i moved on, at 45-50.

i made it to 132,39 miles after warning and pumped 22 gal in to the top of the pipe.
so assuming i got 20 driving slow there where 3 gal when the low lite came on.

question is ,how far could i go on that last 4 quarts!!!. so i feel safe at 40+- after warning.

btw,last nov that stat was $262 when my local was $299, so we did the obama 1 dollar jump in less than 12 mo. whats next. this fill was$364 so no big deal

i wouldn't push it any farther than you did. The most i've ever pumped back in to my tank was 21.7 gal. and i thought i pushed that tank too far. There's no sense in sucking any kind of deposits through your fuel system when it's that low.

i think the pickup device always is at the same place so full tank or mt it gets the same stuff.

later fillup, i did get 19 mpg on a variety of roads,no turnpike so im saving $60 on tolls.

lets see,the game is,one by one the students exhibit their inability to understand 3rd grad math , or their desire not too.

so a recap,,,the book claims a 23 gal tank.
the low fuel lite comes on and the odometer mileage is noted, in this case 93. the assumption is that 3 gal still exist. the assumption is made that mpg is appx 20.
this leaves 60 miles to go.
only 39 are needed to reach the station.
when the station is reached the fillup is 22 gal. the assumptiom is 1 gal was left.

when actual qverage mpg was calculated it was 19 mpg
this reconfirmed that when the low warning came on and 39 more miles were driven,AND it took 22 gal,1 gal remained. and we can trust that the 3 gal balance is valad and safe. we dont know if we can actually use the last drop and go another 20 miles.
i will not attempt to do that,however i have no concern whatsoever about dredging up debris from the bottom just because im driving on low fuel. it makes no difference what the level is to the filtered pickup device. if you have dirt in your tank it will have the same effect at 22 gallons as it does at 2 gallons.

so ifn u have trbl with these numbers , contact your 2nd grade numbers teacher. they usually cover numbers 0 thru 9 and addition,subtraction.later u can get into division to calculate mpg!!!
