Default 2006 H3 in 4high vs 4lock

I recently purchased my first Hummer H3 and fairly new to a 4WD vehicle. My 2006 H3 indicates that it is in 4High and operates great on the road; however when I make a slow turn into a parking space or driveway, it feels like it goes into a crawl 4WD lock or low state. Is this normal? Or, do I have a possible defective fork?

Welcome.

MOVED for you with a temp redirect. Guess you did not read this.... https://www.hummerforums.com/forum/h...section-19461/

READ first, use search, if you can't find an answer, then post in the vehicle section for your Hummer.

I'm not sue by what you mean when talking about what you experience in a low speed turn. Matter of degree i guess. The H3 has a very tight turning radius for its size (for nimble off road ability in tight turn obstacles) so be aware that you can turn so sharp that the truck may feel a bit funny in those situations. If you are referring to wider turns, then you may want to search out some "I think my truck is stuck in lock" kind of threads.

Try shifting into and out of lock, back up a ways in a safe place and turn the wheel left and right. See if anything changes.

Let us know what happens.

I recently bought a hummer as well. I noticed it takes noticeably longer to get it to shift out of 4 high lock back to 4 high normal than some of the other 4x4 vehicles I have owned. Backing up and turning usually does it. The manual even mentions to use this technique. If it hops and jerks during a slow tight turn (with high traction conditions) it is most likely still locked up. Once mine is out of lock it is quite smooth during tight turns, it will release a little pressure if it hits a gravel patch but that's about it. Good luck!

Thanks for the responses gentlemen. I have been able to change from all of the 4WD modes and Neutral. It sounds like it is clicking over correctly and the light indicates that it is changing properly; however, It does not show any differences in 4^ and 4^Lock in the way it reacts. Also, I have also noticed popping when turning sharp in reverse (just backing out of the driveway).
