(risking sounding like an idiot........)

If I were to do my own regular service things (oil change ect) Is my warranty still good? Because I have no "documented" proof that the servces were done. A reciept from the quickie lube, or a receipt from a local mech shop. Just curious.
NO Hurlatron..those services are NOT MANDATORY of you..(unless perhaps you have a lease vehicle - which they then try to tell you it is)...will not invalidate your warranty..

I just did all of the above to my vehicle and in addition rotated my tires, inspected the cv boots, brake lines, shocks, and the undercarriage. If you look in the owner's manual it will tell you what kind of lube is recommended and for what part. You can buy the lube from Pepboys for a couple of dollars. The total cost for me was $35.00. I used Mobil 1 motor oil and the Fram "Tough Guard" oil filter. I have the K&N air filter, so I just inspected it and it was fine. The whole process took me about 1.5 hours because I was thorough. I just won't bring myself to pay over $200 for something I can do myself.
Sugar, that's fine and dandy for you grease monkey types..but what about us gals who aren't [&o]and who have hubbies who aren't mechanically inclined? [:-]
Honestly....If you knew how easy it was to do these things you would be surprised. I guess it's a personal preference. I know if I do the job myself then it will be done properly and all of the bolts will be torqued to the proper specifications. I wouldn't trust the dealership to do the same.

I thought it was high too - now that I've asked the question ... I guess I coulda just came to the conclusion that, I don't really have a choice. Because ... I really don't. My Hubby had to get help from my Dad to change the oil in the lawn mower so we could quit paying someone to do that!

Paige, I am going to do it BUT then I also have a GM letter for a $200 coupon (which makes a big difference in my pocketbook)...UNLESS of course they want to come back and tell me THAT letter is no good now either!!!! [:@]
Yea, I'm gonna go on and do it too - I just HATE to pay them that amount to do it when it's simple work ... would be nice to have that coupon!!

Makes it even harder to pay them ... I don't trust them either!

Change oil and filter & Top off all fluids and inspect & Lube where applicable & Inspect belts and hoses and air filter
should be done at every oil change

Replace wiper blades should be done when they are smearing the windshield
instead of wiping it

Check brake pads and system check andInspect Chassis should be done at tire rotation
some do it at 5k or 10k or 15k
just personal preference

Add fuel system cleaner at every 5th tank

Perform throttle body service is normaly done during tune-ups

thats how we do it at our shop
and a pretty good rule of thumb

Paige..If you were a little closer physically..I'd take care of you for nothing...In fact it would be my pleasure...So I know it's hard to find good service..sounds like your dealer is within the limits.

LOL I haven't tried to use that coupon yet and it could be that it turns out to be TOTAL BS as welllike my extended warranty letter..who knows? In thinking about this tho, I do believe if I were you I would bite the bullet and go ahead and spend the $ with them this time for a couple reasons....mainly because your H3 falls within that "bad vin range" doesn't it? This will (as others have said) establish a service record/rapoire with them and show that you have serviced your H3 as they deem necessary.

In the future, find a fairly reputable place such as a tire place or whatever that does most all basic maintenance services, yet who are cheaper than the dealership and utilize them. Maybe doing some of these services one at a time rather than forking out $200-$300 a whack. I am sure some of the men here will disagree but there comes a time when we have to put some amount of trust in others when we cannot do these services ourselves. Meanwhile..OK WHO wants to come and hold a class andteach us gals how to do the basic necessities?! LOL <donning gloves to protect my nails!>
