Default '03 OnStar Question

Hey all,
I have a question about my On Star.... Well my rig is a '03 H2 with the original OnStar in it. I noticed today that the light on the OnStar unit right next to the call button, which was normally green, was red....
I dont have OnStar nor do I want it, but it is making me wonder.
I mean red is bad and I dont want bad in my truck you know.
So I hit the call but... it worked.
So I hit it again, it stopped.

Any idea why it is red?
Thanks

Normally this indicates (like you thought) some type of an issue.
For example: When you swap an onstar module from on vehicle to another the VIN#'s don't match and the LED will be Red.

The only way to find out is to scan it...
Have anyone near you with a tech 2, or tech2win?

The On-Star in your 2003 will not work anymore even if you pay for the service. You would need to have it converted from Analog to digital. I had an '03 and had it converted. I like On-Star and see the value in it.

Rip it out and make a pocket . There's like 2 possibly 3 adapters you pull out of the unit . I pulled mine out no issues whatsoever .

Yeah I have had the H2 OEM pocket for some time, just never got a chance to install it.
I guess I will be now. But I just thought it was kind of strange that at the same (or roughly similar) time that the light turned red my mirror temp gauge went out...

given I have gotten back my temp gauge....

So there are no repercussions operational wise by removing the onstar module? Chimes or anything like that? I would like to put a cb or something in that location.

I removed my on star unit with no problems ,no codes thrown no chimes , or electrical issues whatsoever .
I've had it out for months now . It was ugly and just sat there taking up space . I considered putting a cb , light switches it can be used for anything you'd like . I ended up just making a nice custom pocket cause I valued it more for my phone and such.

The two or three adapters you pull from the back of the unit I just left in ther and pushed back , don't make any sense to cut em out.
