ORIGINAL: H3PR

The Hummer dealership I do business with (Houston, Tx) is well aware of this particular problem. I'm now officially on a waiting list for a part replacement/problem correction, etc. I also have to add that the ratle noise/feeling on the pedals is a real pain in the *(&(^^6. Waiting for a resolution of the problem is painful .....I still however, LOVE my 07' H3 .......
H3PR, I'm in Houston as well... what dealer do you do business with? I need to get on a list as well.

Thanks,
Manford

I am in West Houston and would love to know which dealer you use too....Just curious....any recommendations or warnings regarding any particular Houston dealer? Just want to know what I have to look foward to...Seems like quite a few on this forum rave about their dealer, but I have heard nothing about any Houston area dealer....hey, my next search

I submitted an online service request with McGinnis Hummer, but I actually made my H3 purchase via McGinnis Cadallac. Don from the service department just called and I missed the call. I'll be calling him back shortly to pick his brain on the issue, see if he is familiar with the situation. I'll let you know how it goes.

UPDATE:

After 2 more phone calls and finally calling my cellphone, Don was able to reach me. Kudos to Don for the effort he took to get back in touch with me in response to my service request!

I had mentioned in the request that I was experiencing a "front-end-rattle", and to this Don basically responded with the topic of this forum... and all I had to do was state "yes, that is my issue EXACTLY".

He mentioned that GM Engineering has issued a bullitin regarding the issue, and that a replacement part is being designed and tested right now. (which we already knew about). The temporary/interim solution is to service the H3 and replace the lower steering column, which Don stated has solved the issue for every H3 they have serviced except for one. He also mentioned that he was not sure if the temp replacement would be a permenant fix, or if the same issue would occur again. This seems like a rational disclaimer in my mind, and I agree with him, and that only time and mileage could tell us for sure. He informed me that this issue was not a safety hazard, and that nothing is going to "fall apart" while driving down the road.

I have a service appointment setup for Mon. 23rd, and McGinnis will be setting me up with a loaner car for the "one-day" turn-around time. Don said that they have done so many of these repairs already that they are very familiar with the procedure and have become very fast at the swap. Nice to know!

So far no complaints about the service from McGinnis, they have been great. I'm glad GM has acknowledged the issue and is working to not only temporarily fix it, but also looking for a new part to eliminate the problem.

I'll post more as the events play out.

they replaced ours with the current version and so far i guess it has helped. the wife hasnt complained but i know it could happen again. the turn around time is quick (same day if you take it early enough). they replaced that, installed the trailer hitch and homelink and washed itin about 5-6hrs for us (sewell in dallas)

from my experience w/ the old-design replacement,it was temporary relief, but all-in-all nothing changed. sewell gave me the same maybe/maybe not disclaimer that you got from mcginnis. as long as their aware of it and are willing to take action, i'm cool with it. to those debating the same solution, i'd just wait for the redesign. its not worth the hassle to gain zero ground. i just cant wait to get an update from the first person on here to get the redesign. hopefully, gm didnt push this out of country like their engine assembly. i hate to find a random bolt where it shouldnt be (sorry, venting from another post).

Mine goes in tomorrow for the repair. Service said they were aware of it and had a lot in and waiting to be serviced. Told me they will fix it but can't guarantee how long it will last at this point. It could be six months it could be over a year they just don't know. Did say GM was in process of making new part to replace them all but didn't have an E.T.A. on when that will happen.
Did anyone have any issues with getting an H3 as a loaner? They told me they couldn't guarantee me getting one they just don't have that many on the lot?

if you're talking about sewell, then no they cant guarantee an h3 loaner. ive been driving a sh!ta$$ chevy equinox for 2 weeks now. given, its for a different reason and its free, but no h3 loaner. i really wouldnt waste the time of getting the oldreplacement. it'll still rattle. but, good luck.

Yes it's Sewell, I ended up speaking with the Service Manager who apologized for my salesman telling me wrong.
He offered a Chev Equinox but I'll be sure to pass that one up... He said for my troubles I could pick out any car on the lot but we'll see... the only time I have good service it seems it when I go thru the Manager...

I purchased my H3 at, DeMontrond Hummer on I-45 North. Both servive advisors are well aware of the problem. In fact, if you just mention it over the phone, they would know exactly what you're reffering to. Their words to me; "we would be calling you as soon as the new re-designed part is delivered to us, or whatever means Hummer comes out with in order to take care of the problem". I had an H3 -06' w/17,800 miles, no problems at all, except some condensation in one of the head lights(the headlight was replaced at no cost to me). Now, my H3 07' model began with the ratle problem at, 700 miles. As I mentioned on my previous post, this ratle problem is terrible. Hummer has no choice but to take care of everyone who's suffering with this problem. I take it very personal, like a lower back pain, like running out of propane gas while grilling a nice steak, or maybe like not being able to buy any more beer past the seventh, at Minute Maid Park when the Astros are playing for more than five hours on an even score. Anyway, I love this forum, as well as the good folks that exhibit their best intentions to provide assistance to other H3 owners. Now, I will release every single piece of information as soon as I get it...............
Note: By now all Hummer dealerships in the US should be more than aware of this terrible ratle problem. There is nothing to hide..........The main issues are; how soon can the problem be fixed, or how long can we go on with it !

The 06's are plagued with the Head /valve issue and it is being addressed with a new redesigned head and valves plus and added warranty to cover it...the 07's have this terribly annoying steering column rattle and a fix/replacement is forthcoming...

So the point of this post...It doesn't matter who makes it or what year it is..ALL cars have problems...I'm problem free since purchase 1.5 years ago(knock wood)...I'm just glad GM isn't trying to sweep it under the rug and they are addressing the problems...To me, that speaks a lot for GM.

I just came from a Land Rover...you people have no idea what a POS they are and the customer service (not by my dealer) by LRNA sux!
