Unhappy Undercarriage Rust Issues

My 2007 Hummer H3 was in UpState NY for 11 years and the rust is killing me! I need to replace the fuel pump but my Florida mechanics are worried about breaking the fule line or the fuel-tank belt or may be even the rusted frame. They are not sure if the parts are available, and cannot estimate the cost - all just to replace the fuel pump! Any advice will be much appreciated.

If your frame is that close to falling apart, you are driving a death trap.

Fuel lines can be made, even if they were not available. The tank straps are available cheap from many sources.

When a repair shop responds to your request for service as you describe, why would you bother? They are obviously whiners and do not want to work on your old rusted truck.

Go someplace else that actually has skilled techs on staff ready to work.

I also MOVED this to the H3 section as it tells everybody NOT to post anything in the H3 FAQ sub-section.

There are some good anti rust rattle can products available. Rust Oleum for one that help with oxidation problems.

When you live in the snowy areas, where salt and sodium chloride are used to melt ice. Rust will be a problem. In these areas where salt and other rust promoting things are used on roadways. Rinsing the undecarrige and spraying anti rust products is recommended.

I'm in Canada, an hour from the Buffalo NY border.

I bought my H3 in March 2022 and it had a quite a bit of rust.

I have family in Virginia and they own a mechanic shop, we visited summer 2022.

I basically worked and up kept the shop, doing electrical for them wiring up some compressors etc.
in return the scraped off tonnes of surface rust.

Once we finished that we used rust o leum underbody coat. There was a thicker one for main chassis etc. And there is a more oily one we used around the diff bolts etc to enable easy future service. Rust has subsided but we need to re apply yearly before winter because it seems to wear off over time.
