Default Transfer Case Shift Motor Fell Off!

Hi gang,

Wife was driving down the road when suddenly the Service 4WD light came on and sounded like something was dragging. She turned around and headed home and at some point the sound stopped. When she got home I looked under and saw 2 empty wire plugs just hanging there by themselves, then took the other car and drove her route and found the transfer case shift motor laying in the road. Picked it up and got back home. It looks ok, thoughts on just bolting it back up? Or should I just replace the whole unit since it's out right now? I have no idea where the bolts went. Do you know what size and washers are needed? Are they 15mm? And I see where the main plug goes, but why is there a 2nd connected plug split like a "Y" in that harness? Not sure where that one goes? Am I missing another part? I took a couple pics:

That's a first for that happening that I have ever heard of? Did you ever use the TCase selectors to change from 4hi to lock or low lock before?

Your wiring split probably is one male connector for the T Case Actuator the other could be the female for the speed sensor but it looks too big.

Anyways the bolts are:
3) M6X1.0X40.0
1) M6X1.0X15.0

Thanks for the quick reply Doc! Have not had the 2007 H3 long, only a few weeks. Haven't tried switching out of 4HI yet.

Thank you for the bolt measurements! I will order some M6 bolts from Amazon right now.

Good call on the speed sensor, I think you're right. Since it's connected to the transfer case motor actuator harness, that has to be it. Hopefully nothing important broke while it was dragging along the road!

It was throwing a check engine light P0455 and intermittent Fuel Cap in the DIC as well. I "think" I fixed that by replacing the gas cap with a new one and ensuring I tighten it 3 clicks after every fill up.

The Hummer is going to sit for a few days though until the bolts get here and I can attempt to put the motor back on. Hopefully I don't need to re-align anything, since it's the same part, it should be lined up, I hope!

Have to agree with DOC, first time I have ever heard of a Tcase actuator just falling off.
I would see if the 3 mounting points are "wallered" out prior to fitting the replacement.

Make sure that they didn't break off inside the case, as well. As Doc & Tainter said, never heard of that happening before. I wonder if the previous owner had the transfer case out and forgot to tighten the actuator bolts upon reinstall? Weird, that's for sure.

Just baffled lol! Never heard of this. Could be someone loosed it and forgot to tighten it b4 you bought. Someone that could steal it for scrap metal value?
