Try this it is a switch relearn procedure see if it helps.

1. Turn the ignition to ON.
2. Completely close the sunroof window with the manual close switch.
3. Press the sunroof vent switch to the vent open position until the sunroof window stops, and continue holding the switch for at least 10 seconds.

I'd hope this isn't the case but I once read a forum reply where the owner was going to "permanently lock and seal" their sunroof because of the notorious sun roof drain issues. This seems like a lot more work than just fixing the known issues with the sunroof drains lol. I would inspect the sunroof to ensure the previous owner didn't do something like this.

I unplugged power to the sunroof in my 2006. I waited about 5 minutes and plugged back in to power. This is when I depressed the vent button and held it until it was in re-learn mode. It has worked fine ever since. I bought my 2006 used, right after winter. My theory is that the PO tried to open the sunroof with ice on it. This can get them out of sync.

Default Had it checked

Had some local sunroof repair guy inspect it and he said the rails and everything is good, the motor is good BUT the plastic spinning gear wheel is bad and when we press the sunroof open or close button the motor engages but plastic gear stops easily when you put your finger on it it doesn’t keep spinning. Any help? Would I just have to buy the whole motor assembly?

The AISIN 63260-48060 fits and runs with NO modifications to wiring or mounting points?
Vents the roof, full open, closes automatically?
