Until you get the idiot gauge needle in the red, you are not overheating. It might be running hotter than you prefer, but it is NOT overheating.

195°F-210°F range is normal operating temperature! Over 210°F shortens the lifespan of the engine.

exactly so why would I just watch my engine life shortened and not do anything about I don’t have to wait until it reach the red line and something bad happen to take actions it was climbing and was so so close to the red . Thats not normal. But I think it’s the head gasket like some of you said because I checked around and I saw a little leak on the side so I am gonna change it tomorrow luckily I have few days off from work so I am gonna take it off and sand the block and put a new one and see if that make a difference

Ask yourself this: Did your AC shut off? Did your DIC display "ENG HOT"? Go into limp mode? You should follow up on whether you have a head gasket issue, otherwise............ chill out.

Normal for what? Normal is 190F - 225F. Short bursts above that ain't no big deal.

I was going to suggest a radiator fluid flush and fill, but if you pull the head you are half way there on that.

yes doc it’s the head gasket leaking so I am in the process of replacing it today been working on it and once I finish I am gonna do a radiator flush also with distilled water just to be safe even tho the radiator fluid is only few months old

@hummerz Where does the 195-210 range come from? I just replaced water pump, thermostat (187), tensioner, idler, belts, fan clutch and fan on my 5.3, plus made sure all the baffles and seals are properly installed, and my truck now stabilizes in the 215-220 range. Was able to check it out in outside temps from 70-100 this week and it still stabilized in the same range.

Is this considered running hot?

I'd say it is right where you would expect when outside air is 100F. Might be on the warm side for 70F outside.

Do you still have the Trans cooler running through the radiator?

yes but here is an update I took my cylinder head out and my head gasket looks toasted I can see residue of coolant all over and I even had coolant on my pistons . I stopped because it started raining . Tomorrow I am gonna sand it and check for flat surface and make everything is good and install the new one . I will also flush the radiator fluid and change engine oil as since it’s due . I also got a new thermostats just to be safe also
