UPDATE: Took my Hummer to the other house and along the way I decided to check the front speakers and volume for clipping just for a moment..... NO CLIPPING! I wonder if the problem is in my rear harness or elsewhere. I cranked it to about 25 or so and backed off back to 0 and there was no distortion or clipping... I have a pair of 100 watt MAX shelf speakers that I'm going to wire to the rear doors just to make sure I don't blow the radio's internal amp and the rear channels can have a load on them. I've got some thinking to do for new speakers... I'm sure my radio has a rear/center / bass output to an external amp, so I need to do some web and youtube surfing for system ideas. I want 6.5" speakers in the doors and two 6 X 9's in sealed boxes in the rear. Always had luck with that type of set-up.

home speaker are usually 8 Ohm not 4 Ohm. so they might not sound as loud as the fronts.

That's what I was thinking but at least the line will have a load. Nothing loud, just something to listen to. Cheap desk speakers in the rear. Sony 8 ohm.

I put 6.5s in the Front and 6.75s in the back doors, replaced the Monsoon Sub, all Rockford Fosgate. Sounds great with my Alpine ILX-W650 and separate piggy back sub amp.

Good luck with those boxes, I can't stand them or the interior space they take up.

I am just going to re-wire the doors myself and skip factory wiring. I'm also going to not use the tweeters in the pillars just incase that is causing my issue. Don't even know if they work as I've paid them no attention. Many of my vehicles never had pillar tweeters, as in my Expedition, and it rocked.. I just like to keep things simple yet detailed. I know I will sleep better knowing my system is done right. OH, and that comment about a shop probably installed this? I really really hope there is NO shop in Texas that would do such a rat job installing stereos and speakers. I believe that the last owner did this. I did, in the past, remove the radio and clean that rat's nest of wiring. I'm only doing little boxes for the 6 X 9's because they don't take up any space I need...... That old school A/B amp (Lanzar) will be taking up space and looking good!! BTW, I like those side compartments and will try to utilize them. I want to ad another battery and will see what will fit in there. I recall somewhere I saw a youtube video of a custom stereo job using both side compartments. I don't like to waste space and right now, they are useless for me. Heck, if I had the 'Monsoon', I'd probably be happy with that and not doing this. I thought Hummer was contracted with BOSE during manufacture..... Anyway, my big hunt for the perfect 6.5's for my use has been going on for a couple days now staring at youtube videos like crazy.. Looking at the JBL GTO629, Kicker CSC65, DS18 PROX6.5COL, Kicker CompTR 6.75", etc....

Kickers are junk, if you go check on the car stereo forums that will be confirmed. The factory Monsoon System sounded OK, but used the same factory garbage speakers in the doors. The Amp isn't too bad. The sub added a bunch, but a upgraded sub adds a ton more.

Forgot to say, I ditched the factory Tweeters and replaced with Rockford Fosgate R1T-S flush mounted, they fit darn near perfect in the A Pillars after cutting out the molded grills.

The OEM Tweeters run off the front door speaker channels. There is a reason the engineers put them in all GM vehicles....

Have fun with it, it seems like you are planning out a good result.

UPDATE: I found my problem! I was looking through our local Stereo Installer's youtube vids and found this!! I always assumed the tweeters were the issue, but, didn't know why. I AM NOT currently running an amp, but, should be. The system is just running off the radio... My speakers alone are minimum 50 watts each running off a 4 channel radio at 50 watts a channel.... then add the tweeters! This is why I can't get past the #14 on the volume dial without issues........ I really like JBL and am leaning towards them. I have nothing against Pioneer either and a pair of nice Pioneer 4 way speakers in boxes is my choice from past experiences.....

OK, I have made my choice for the 4 new speakers for my doors and they are ordered! I do believe they will compliment the pair of Pioneer 6" X 9" 4-ways I will have in the rear. Since these 6.5"s are 80 minimum and 350 watt max, I will need an amp. I am scouting around for an old school A/B amp of approx. 1200 to 1800 output ( enough for all 6 speakers). Maybe I'll box my current Pioneer TS-A650R speakers also!! IF you have experience with the modern 'D' series let me know. I just like the huge looking aluminum amps. I also found and bought the 4 missing door speaker adapters/inserts because (dummy me) I tossed out the old factory speakers with them attached thinking they were permanent.. Anyway, I have chosen the 6.5 " Pioneer 4 way A series PLUS TS-A1681F speakers. I've always had a lot of luck with Pioneer and figure I better stay with them. Most of the 6.5's I likes were a minimum of 250 watts and that was out of my league. I just want normal hard hitting music when my favorite songs are playing. One song I crank the volume to is Play That Funky Music !! Another in my CD collection is VOODOO by Godsmack! enjoy.
