So do you actually have any check engine lights on when the truck is running or were these codes pulled only by the dealership somehow while failing to start?

If simply failing to start occasionally you may just be dealing with the common passlock issue. While it's trying to start do you see the security icon on your dash lit up? I dealt with a similar issue years ago and after not being able to get my vehicle to start for the 5th time I had the ignition switch replaced and have had no problems since.

I heard if you lock your truck using the door controls rather then the key fob then the passlock issue will not occur. So you may want to try avoiding locking the truck with your key fob for a few days and see if your issue goes away. When the passlock issue does occur you should be able to simply wait 15 minutes and try again, if it starts right up this is likely what you're dealing with.

started up right away after shutting off. sometimes i have to wait...i guess that eliminates the passlock

IF you have a timing chain issue, you would know it. Lack of power, rattle at start up and idle, difficult to start (firing and not starting right away) and a no start without starting again until the problem (timing chain) is fixed. I would say you have an electrical issue. All the codes you have indicate a timing chain issue. First I would get a second opinion. Take it somewhere else for a diagnostic. Explain what the stealership said. Ask for a compression check. This should eliminate a mechanical problem. With an electrical problem on an h3, check your battery terminals! Notorious for causing electrical issues. I'm going to take a stab in the dark and guess a crankshaft sensor, or wiring, is causing the issue. With a proper scan tool you can watch the engine RPM while cranking the engine. Check while the no start is happening. Good luck.

This happened to my 2010 H3T Alpha last year. Randomly would not start, but I also did not have any codes. Ended up being a bad BCM.

Bad BCM causes all sorts of crazy sh*t to happen with the electronics. When mine went bad my wipers were wiping on their own randomly like a poltergeist had taken over the hummer.

Yes, the BCM can cause plenty of issues, even no starts. Because there are engine codes, those need to be resolved first before attacking the BCM.

the "generic" code was 0340, but when it took it to the dealer, they listed other codes as well. I'm wondering if the other codes were a domino affect of what caused the 0340 code, making it appear i have a bunch of other problems, but if i just fix what caused the p0340 code, then the other codes may dissappear?.
