Just turned 120K and now + some change. It hasn't left my driveway in 11 days, but when I drive it tomorrow I will make a point of checking the oil.

GM bulletin I found:
http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/he...guidelines.pdf
What's interesting is it's saying the acceptable amount of oil loss (1 qt. per 2000 mi.) is exactly what I'm experiencing.

"This rate only applies to personal use vehicles, under warranty"
"If the final evaluation shows that the engine uses more than 0.946 liter (1 qt) in 3200 km (2000 mi), follow the published symptom diagnostics as described in the appropriate Service Manual. If the oil consumption test shows that the engine uses less than 0.946 liter (1 qt) in 3200 km (2000 mi), explain to the customer that their engine meets the guidelines for oil consumption."
In other words:
Here's the keys to your Hummer, don't forget to add 1qt engine oil every 2k miles and when the warranty is over, we can repair, at an additional cost to you.

Could you explain what to check on the PCV system? Even if it does have oil pooled in the intake, then what am I looking for?

My I-5 uses 1qt every 2k, and it really irritates me.

on the I5 it is different then the Alpha v8. i believe yours is internal to the driver side of the valve cover. it is the vacuum side that usually clogs there on the rear drivers side of the valve cover. the hole inside should fit a 3/32 drill bit when not clogged. pull your engine oil dipstick and see if you see smoke come out of it while running or if you feel air pulsing from the dipstick tube. if so then your pcv system is not working properly and its partially or fully clogged. that leads to oil consumption by oil getting into your intake plenum through the breather tube located on the back of the passenger side of the valve cover. if it's severe then you have blow by issues which can be stuck carbonized piston rings. if you can unclog the pcv system without removing the valve cover you will save yourself a lot of lost time and aggravations. its a real involved P.I.T.A. not a full 10 on the hardness level but if your not used to wrenching it will feel like an 11

We have owned 6 Alphas since late 2007.
2008 Alpha H3 Mr Black
2008 Alpha H3 Mr Orange
2008 Alpha H3 Mr Blue
2010 Alpha H3T UGROWUP
2010 Alpha H3 XXL H3
2009 Alpha H3T NOTJEEP

For some reason all of our 2008s consumed about 1 to 1.5 quarts per 5,000 miles (oil change interval). Mobil1 Full Synthetic with Purolator One filters.
Neither the 2009 or 2010s consume any. I dunno...

Ah yes, ... the inherent 2008 first year Alpha design flaw rears its ugly head.
