Motor swaps
There's always ways to make things stronger built trans, Yukon ring and gear goodies, driveshaft shop driveshafts, CV's it all depends on How far you want to go. When I was building my Dmax it wasn't easy or cheap. The stock trans, Convertor, t-case weren't meant to handle much more than stock
The 5.3 and 6.0 are physically the same size, I think both are the same on hp(depending on which Escalade and year) but the torque differences are fairly sizable. You'd prolly be fine as long as you didnt pound on it everyday. Then again even a purpose built racecar will fail if you stand it on its nose day after day. With that swap I'd say a built trans and a good convertor would help make things last. Look folks anyone can say "oh this is weak and that is weak" its only as weak as your self control. Parts break, thats the nature of the beast, if it breaks then something was wrong, it was either pounded on too much and let go or there may have been a MFG defect. We all know the big 3 source out to the lowest bidder thats why we have companies here in the U.S. like Yukon Ring and Gear, Predator MS, and GMPP to name a few. Once funds and available time permit I'm either going to build the little 3.7 or swap it. I'd like to swap it with a similar displacement diesel much like the ones to be available in the upcoming Colorado/Canyon since thats the H3's sister. I'm just curious how much of it will have changed dimensionally. The press release says it's gone to a unibody like the Trailblazer
Will i know ot has enough power for it bit i was just a little dissatisfied with the highway performance. I can't complain offroad especially with low lock. But i don't like how it shifts going up hills and stuff. And i guess a cannot complain. I pretty much baby it anyway. It gets offroad some and i just don't run it hard, after all it isn't a sports car it is a trail how and i think on the road it feels like luxury. I love my three as does the rest of my kids and wife.. :-) Hell the kids didn't even want me to trade it when i thought about it. They said no dad because with anything else we can't go 'anywhere' we want to go.
Good Luck with all of this. Maybe you should have just bought an Alpha or Champ. Edition to begin with since it would already have the stronger drivetrain components. Cheaper than ALL of the mods you have written down once you have added them all up.
I can see you are super excited to have your first HUMMER. That is great!
About those engine swaps (they have been done and they are in no way cost effective). There are some who have swapped in a 6.0L for an I5 and 5.3L for a 6.2L. Once they finished with the swap they where NEVER heard form again. Not sure what happed to any of them (maybe, broken drivetrain parts everyone told them they would have and they wouldn't fess up??).

Why would he break driveline parts with a weaker motor
Or did I miss something, my I5 in standard form pits out 180kw (just over 240hp), he is suggesting engines putting out much less.
Not sure why anyone would bother trying to change engines in one of these, they are great as they are, seems like a completely pointless exercise.
If you want more power do some work to the engine, buy an alpha, or supercharge it, if you want less, well buy a smaller car, why spend money to make the car go worse than stock

Yea i understand there is power in the diesel engines and understand there is lots of torque. I just jidnt know what a 4 cylinders 2 litre was gonna be like. The h1 has a big turbo diesel and doesn't have huge hp but is a tank. I just wish it wouldn't downshift on the highway as often. But i suppose it is pretty heavy. I just figured with a bit more hp it wouldn't labour as much going up hills and be better on fuel in that aspect.
But you are right i don't understand the online concept difference between a v as far as performance goes.

With the diesel conversion you are getting massive amounts of torque at a very low rpm. Great for moving a large mass over obstacles or propelling a heavy vehicle (HUMMER) from 0 to 20mph. I can see the advantages of the engine swap I just don't see the trans, t-case and diffs handling the amount of low end torque that a diesel puts out.
I would love to see it completed and work out for him. It just going to be expensive and a bee-otch with the PCM and BCM we have.
