Default Legal LED Bulbs

I tried looking through and can't find anything about legal DOT LED Bulbs. Anyone have a place where I can start looking? Is there a federal law or state laws?

Looking for Headlight LED bulbs not fog lights

Last I checked, there are federal laws and state laws. DOT refers to the Federal Dept. of Transportation laws, rules & regs.

Cops do not carry light meters, and most ain't smart enough to know how to change any light bulb. Make sure you adjust them so they are not blinding oncoming traffic.

From Lightwerkz:"HID and LED bulbs are street legal in the USA for Fog Light use only. Not compliant with DOT / FMVSS108 and not street legal in the USA for Headlights. Legal for off-road use in Snowmobile and ATV headlights and off-road racing use only auxiliary or forward lighting. International street legality varies by country.

Note: This usage regulation is not unique to products found on our website. All LED and HID bulbs from all other brands, regardless of marketing claims, are prohibited from street use in halogen headlights in the USA."

Installing and LED replacement bulb in a OEM headlight bucket that came with Halogen from the factory (all H3s) is not DOT approved. The regs specifies those little bitty letters in the headlight plastic mean something. They designate original equipment bulb and acceptable replacement light source. Hence, H3 = filament light source.... the glowing filament in excited gases = Halogen, Zenon, blah, blah. LED is NOT a filament light source. Easy stuff.

Installing replacement LED Headlights (the headlight unit, not just a bulb) can be DOT approved depending upon brand/model, etc....

I have never heard on any H3 owner getting an LED Bulb "ticket", but State Troopers can be nasty if they have a bad day.
