Default Help me decide to be an owner

Hello,
New member here. I'm just now delving into the 4WD world and would love to do it in a Hummer H3. I really dig the styling and would love to buy one now for keeps, especially since the price point for these are ~ $10K now.

For my 4WD, I like a fun vehicle which I can do some 4WD around without worrying about a scratch here or a dent there! What worries me though is that since its been discontinued, is parts availability an issue now in 2021 and more likely worsen in the future? I'm mechanically inclined and would be doing my own work but can't achieve my dream if I can't easily source parts or do so cheaply!

Also worried about the vehicle passing California SMOG every 2 years which forced me to send my last car to the wreckers. It was a constant battle spending $$$ to get it passing CA SMOG !

What are your thought please!

Parts are generally not an issue, there are a handful that can be a serious challenge, but they are not common replacements. They made a bunch of H3s, used body parts are easy to come by, take a look on ebay and car-parts.com.

That $10K price point is all I5s, there are many with 200K miles still running strong. If I were you, I'd look for as new as you can find with low miles.

I got nothing to offer on your smog test concern, not an issue in MI, and the only problem with my 07 before I sold it was a bad air bag module. Pricy part that needs programming, that sucked. I mean like the month before I sold it for my 09 Alpha Off Road. If you truly want to wheel it, look for either an Adventure or Lux Off Road (2006-8 = rear locker, 2009+ front and rear lockers).

These trucks are all getting old, there will be maintenance and repairs.
