Default Headlight Upgrade Options

Hello all,
'07 Base with stock headlights at the moment.
After last night during a blizzard where I could barely see in front of me, then having a new car pass me with the whitest and brightest lights I've seen, I've decided to upgrade my headlights as best I can.
I don't want to spend $700+ on new assemblies, so I'd like to go with an LED bulb replacement.

I've come across a few, and here are my questions:

1) Anyone have experience with GTR Lighting Ultra 2.0? https://www.headlightrevolution.com/...0_2?quantity=1
2) Will I notice a huge difference with decent brand LED lights vs stock lights (using the same reflector)?
3) I understand there are some technical issues with DOT approval - anyone get busted for non-DOT headlights?

I know this topic has been discussed many times, and I am trying to research as best I can, but this is where I'm at right now. I don't want to spend hundreds on something that is a marginal improvement, but I am willing to spend some $$ on decent brands if they work. I'm open to other brands as recommended as well (I just have zero experience with LED lights currently).

Buy any 7" LED headlight that work on a jeep ($100) and get lazed designs adapters to mount on the H3. Some of the 7" LEDs can be mounted without the adapter but its a trial/error.
moving from halogen to LED is a major improvement and will cost you below $300

I've installed LED's from Headlight Revolution in other peoples cars and they are a quality product.
That could be your first step in this process, before changing out the whole headlight assembly.
Just my two cents

Thank you both for the information - very much appreciated!

Last confirmation for now - the H3 daytime running light (DRL) uses the low beam light, correct? If I go the replacement route, I could not hook up a halo type light as the DTL separately.

Now I'll dig around and decide which route I'll go. Right now I'm debating between the ease of just a bulb, with the DOT approval of a replacement (at least some appear to be DOT approved).

Thanks again!

If you do decide on just a LED bulb upgrade (H13) I would suggest calling Headlight Revolution, I believe they have a S-V.4 that will work with the DRL function. If you prefer no DRL function you can just pull fuse #39 and buy any of HR H13 style bulbs

Will, you have more H3 lighting experience than most..... how do the HR S-V.4 work in the not so good H3 reflector? What do you think?

Doc-
The H3 headlight housing is a rather bad design to start with and that means that almost any LED upgrade bulb will most likely
not give a very good light pattern on the road, even with a quality LED bulb.

The LED bulbs I have installed in about four friends cars that are much newer than our trucks seem to light the road significantly better
Maybe the car companies have just improved their halogen headlight housing design over the years. (?)

All this being said, the Headlight Revolution SV.4 is a remarkable bulb and much R &D has been put into it to create a better light output with little dazzle.
AS you know the H13 is a dual element bulb and the Headlight Revolution SV.4 addresses this better than cheap bulbs.

Headlight Revolution is a solid company and if you bought the SV.4 (H13) bulb and you hated it, you can return it to them.
Anthony was a guy I dealt with at that company and he was very good with all my questions and concerns.
I currently run two SV.4 (H7) bulbs in my other vehicle and the light pattern is very good, I get NO flashing from other cars
Hope this helps . . . some?
.................................................. ..........

One last thing, I believe the dual element bulb headlight housing is slowly disappearing from cars and trucks.
I see more dedicated low beam and high beam housings than in years past, because they can get better light to the road with a
separate low/high beam housing set up

Thanks. Yeah, the H3 headlight buckets are pretty crappy. IMHO just not worth sticking a $180 set of LEDs in there. Should bite the bullet and spend for a replacement set instead.

You are so right about the headlight housings (buckets), they are lousy.

There is one guy who replaced his H3 housings with the 7" jeep LED headlight housing and it has built in LED's and used a special universal housing to hold them in the correct position with those three prongs that our truck uses for the stock setup
It is more money than most want to spend, but the light output is impressive.

Like I said, call Headlight Revolution and confirm that they will accept returns if you are not happy with the SV.4 bulb,
if you ever decide to pull the trigger on this

I added a set of these O.E.M. grill off road lamps and they put out more light then my hi beams. I got mine several years ago when the black grill was still available, but some bedliner will get rid of that awful chrome. Price isn't bad either.

Found one in black if it's worth $50 extra for you to not have to paint.
