Default H3 compatible engine years

Ok so I searched both online and through forums and haven't found an answer yet. I have a 2007 h3 3.7l I have the dreaded cylinder head issue. I've found a donor motor but it's out of a 2009. Upson search it shows up different so what is different? Can I put this in my 2007?

Welcome to HF.

Why not fix the issue? Head work is cheaper than a full engine swap.

Your 2007 3.7L has a one year only PCM, no TCM. 2008s+ all have a newer PCM design and a TCM as well. The 2009 uses different sensors, so you have to use the 2007 Crankshaft Position Sensor with the 09.

That is not a reason to avoid using a 2009 in a 2007, either way you will have to reprogram the PCM for the replacement motor, change some sensors.

Might want to use search feature as well. When you do, please do us all a favor and avoid digging up the OLD Threads, read them instead. 07 L5 3.7 engine installed in a 09 hummer h3 3.7 09

Thanks doc! The reason for the swap is I've found a few crashed ones with no front end damage around the same price as doing the head. I've been a offroad and motorcycle technician for 8 years so I am very meticulous to say. My thought being take one of these low mile motors drop it in to get me running for now and really dig in and go through my orginal motor completely. I have a very clean vehicle I'd love to see it hit 300,000 numbers it treats me good, until now 🤣

I'm more curious as what has designated this head as needing rebuild, replace?
Because a lot of time it is not the head but other issues causing the problem.

I agree the head is a whole lot simpler to address then a whole lot of extra work of replacing.

I was driving down the highway cruise set at 70 doing fine noticed prior mass oil consumption 2qts every couple hundred miles. But was 5hrs from home. Then cylinder 3 just dropped pulled off compression tested got 60psi on that cylinder. Found once I trailered it home bad guide, seat, valve. I've drilled and put in guide sleeves before on smaller engines but being my daily I'd rather not chance it staying.
